Celebrate amid shouts of "Opa!" at the Belmont Greek Festival, where everyone can get a taste of Greek culture, both literally and metaphorically. This three-day festival will include continuous music and dancing, outside demonstrations, choral folk singing, mythology plays and a fun children's amusement area.
Did we mention the food? Classic favorites to try are souvlakia (Greek shish-kebab), spanakopita (spinach and cheese stuffed inside layers of filo pastry and dolmades (grape leaves wrapped around ground beef and rice), along with desserts like baklava (layers of nuts and filo pastry soaked in honey).
A Greek band will also be around to spice up the festivities, so don't forget those dancing shoes. $5 for adults, $2.50 for seniors and youth ages 13-17 and free for children under 12 accompanied with guardian.
The festival will be held this Saturday and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. and Monday from noon to 8 p.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Cross, 900 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont. For information, visit www.goholycross.org/festival.
