PALO ALTO - Hewlett-Packard Co. assured investors Thursday it is on track to meet earnings expectations despite sluggish sales in the domestic market for personal computers. "Softness in that market has been somewhat greater than we had originally anticipated," CEO and Chairman Carly Fiorina said in a statement, but she added: "HP is far more than a U.S.-centric consumer PC company, with less than 10 percent of our business in this segment."
Expectations are somewhat of a sore subject for the Palo Alto-based hardware and software giant since the company fell a dime per share short of analysts' forecasts when it reported fourth-quarter results in November. Hewlett-Packard shares fell nearly 5 percent to $32.38 Thursday.
