Returning to the fairgrounds May 30 to June 8, the first two days of the San Mateo County Fair will attract attendees with not only rides, kettle corn and vendors, but a full-fledged music festival new this year.
Although the fair is still months away, organizers are beginning to tease what’s to come, including two days of musical talent for the Bayside 101 Music Festival, an effort to cater to a younger demographic and recognize attendees’ love for live music, Milla Khano, marketing director for the San Mateo County Event Center, said.
“We always want to emphasize live music because it’s such a great draw for us, our audience loves it,” “We want to cater that to a younger demographic as well who might not always stay for our evening performances,” Khano said.
The music festival is not replacing the popular main stage acts that go on each evening the fair is open, or the performances on the community stage throughout the day, but will be a concentrated event of back-to-back performers, local acts DJs, and bigger names, Khano said.
“We are just providing different opportunities for everyone to listen to their favorites — music for mom, music for dad, music for children and teenagers,” Khano said. “We want to hit everybody and make everybody feel welcome here.”

The entire lineup is not yet announced, but five acts are slated to perform from 4-10 p.m. on Friday, May 30, including DJ Bitesize, a Bay Area DJ who spins for the new women’s soccer team Bay FC.
On Saturday, sets will run from noon-8:30 p.m. So far, performances will include cover band Shake it Booty and blues and rock band Dirty Cello in the afternoon before the night closes with California band Hoobastank and alt rock band Everclear. The official DJ for the Golden State Warriors, DJ D Sharp, will perform multiple sets throughout the day, as well, keeping the audience hyped in between performers.
Event organizers are looking forward to inviting everyone back to the fairgrounds and giving them more of what they love, Khano said. Although putting on a music festival may seem daunting, the Event Center team is well experienced with hosting live music events and is excited for attendees to enjoy, she said.
With less than 100 days until the fair opens, those interested can stay up to date with further announcements by visiting @sanmateocofair on Instagram or www.sanmateocountyfair.com for more information.
