Light up this midwinter weekend at the Peninsula Orchid Society’s Show and Sale, an incomparable display of hundreds of blooming orchids from the Peninsula’s finest growers. Founded in 1946, the POS is a society of 250 orchid enthusiasts and professional growers, whose mission is to increase the awareness, appreciation, enjoyment, conservation and cultivation of orchids.
See the most miraculously designed flowers of the plant kingdom on display and shop for blossoming orchid plants — many not available elsewhere. Enjoy how-to demonstrations for beginners, outdoor and indoor growers, meet the experts and consult with the orchid doctor. The event takes place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Community Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Ave. in Redwood City. Admission: $ 5 Adult, $ 3 senior, disabled, ages 12 to 16. Free parking.

Bring your old CRT devices, (monitors and TVs), computers, cell phones and other electronic items for recycling. The event takes place 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at San Mateo High School, 506 N. Delaware St., San Mateo.
