Burgers, cocktails, sparkly new duds: Oscar winners, losers and guests hit the after-parties
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Once the Oscar telecast ends, the partying starts. After the Governors Ball, some Oscar attendees headed to the more exclusive Vanity Fair party at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Organizers say attendees were greeted by 10,000 yellow orchids, according to organizers. The menu ranged from Mediterranean sea bass and grilled ribeye to Domino’s pizza and In-N-Out burgers. On his way in, host Conan O'Brien said it was a challenge to keep Oscar jokes fresh and topical. Jane Fonda spoke passionately about the First Amendment. Oscar-winning sound editor Gwendolyn Yates Whittle spoke about a victory with especially deep meaning.
Behind the scenes at the Oscars: What you didn’t see on camera
LOS ANGELES (AP) — There’s the Oscars you see on television and the one that takes place off camera. During commercial breaks, it can be a race to catch up with, congratulate and possibly console the peers around you. It can also be a time to run to the famed lobby bar and really be out of sight. Among the off-camera moments The Associated Press saw at the 98th Academy Awards: Kate Hudson joining Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell at the bar, supporting actor nominee Jacob Elordi taking his mom, arm in arm, to a bar, and Emma Stone losing a diamond ring in her dress. After an assist from another guest, the dress and ring were saved.

Jordan is the sixth Black man to win an Oscar for best actor, adding his name to a list that includes Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington. “Sinners” reunited Jordan and writer-producer-director Ryan Coogler, who go back to their first collaboration in 2020. Jordan beat Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke and Wagner Moura.
Key Oscar moments: Paul Thomas Anderson and Amy Madigan wins, outstanding songs and sad goodbyes
Paul Thomas Anderson won big at the Oscars with “One Battle After Another” but “Sinners” also landed major wins. But in the shadow of those big movies, actor Amy Madigan ended a 40-year wait between nomination and winning for “Weapons,” and the show honored Rob Reiner and Robert Redford in a long in memoriam section. Anderson, one of the most respected filmmakers of his generation, finally won an Oscar. Then he won another. Then he won the biggest one. There were also two stunning musical performances — “I Lied to You” from “Sinners” and “Golden” from “KPop Demon Hunters.”

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Autumn Durald Arkapaw has made Oscars history by winning best cinematography for “Sinners,” becoming the first woman to take the prize.
