Sonia De Los Santos cancels Kennedy Center shows, citing unwelcoming climate
NEW YORK (AP) — Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Sonia De Los Santos has canceled her upcoming performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington. She was set to perform two concerts for young audiences on Feb. 7, followed by a conversation with the audience. De Los Santos is known for her 2018 Latin Grammy-nominated album “¡Alegría!” She cited her background as a reason for the cancellation and expressed concerns about the current climate at the venue. The Kennedy Center has faced multiple cancellations since President Donald Trump ousted its previous leadership and rebranded it the Trump-Kennedy Center. Other artists, including Lin-Manuel Miranda and Bela Fleck, have also withdrawn.
Harvey Weinstein weighs plea on rape charge but insists he 'never assaulted anyone'
NEW YORK (AP) — A judge says Harvey Weinstein is weighing a potential guilty plea to resolve an undecided rape charge and avoid going to trial for a third time in New York. But, amid the plea talk Thursday, the disgraced movie mogul said he knows he was unfaithful and acted wrongly, but he insisted that he "never assaulted anyone.” For now, at least, Weinstein is on course for a retrial as soon as March in the landmark #MeToo-era case. While jurors got stuck on the rape charge at a trial last year, they convicted Weinstein of one separate sexual assault charge and acquitted him of another. He denies all the charges.

Most of the cast is back, but an expanded ensemble includes a tech-minded new doctor competing with Wyle's old-school Dr. Robby. And there's a lot more medicine for the young doctors — and the actors playing them — to learn. The first episode streams Thursday.
Directors Guild nominates Anderson, Coogler, del Toro, Safdie and Zhao for its top prize
Paul Thomas Anderson, Ryan Coogler, Guillermo del Toro, Chloé Zhao, and Josh Safdie have been nominated for the Directors Guild's top prize. The organization announced the nominees for the 78th annual Directors Guild Awards on Thursday. The films “One Battle After Another,” “Sinners,” “Frankenstein,” “Hamnet,” and “Marty Supreme” are in the running for the top honor. Directors Guild nominees often align with the Academy Awards, where the winner usually triumphs at the Oscars. Oscar nominations are set for January 22. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Feb. 7, 2026.
Movie Review: ‘Greenland 2: Migration’ is an unmemorable sequel with a memorably newsy title
“Greenland 2: Migration” has the good fortune of boasting an extremely newsy title. But this sequel to the 2020 comet-disaster film doesn't say much about Greenland — a toxic wasteland here, which residents are forced to flee for their lives. Gerard Butler is back as the stalwart John Garrity, who got his family to safety in the first film and now must do it again. Director Ric Roman Waugh tries to focus this time on character building and emotion, but none of this is compellingly rendered, writes Associated Press critic Jocelyn Noveck in her review. It opens in theaters Friday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Taylor Swift once again leads the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Award nominees with nine. She’s followed by Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter and Alex Warren, who are tied with eight each. The iHeartRadio Music Awards honor the most played artists of the year on its stations and app. Last year, Swift and country singer Morgan Wallen led the nominees with 10 each. She also led the nominees in 2024 and in 2023, when she tied with Lizzo and Harry Styles. The 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards broadcasts live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 26 on FOX. It will also air on iHeartRadio stations across the U.S. and on the app.
Attorney for Rob Reiner's son resigns but says his client is not guilty of murder under state law
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nick Reiner's high-profile attorney has been removed from his case. But he says Reiner is not guilty of murder under California law in the killing of his parents Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. Attorney Alan Jackson did not explain why he left the case. A public defender has been appointed to replace him. The couple was found dead in their Los Angeles home on Dec. 14. Reiner's plea hearing has been postponed until Feb. 23. The prosecution has not decided on seeking the death penalty. Jackson's departure adds new uncertainty to the case.
Live-action 'Tangled' will star Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Disney will let down Rapunzel’s lengthy hair once again. Walt Disney Pictures says its live-action adaptation of “Tangled” will star Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim in the lead roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. The 2010 animated hit followed Rapunzel, a magically long-haired princess locked away in a tower, whose carefully ordered life is upended when she teams up with Flynn Rider, a charming outlaw on the run. Disney says the new “Tangled” will be directed by Michael Gracey, best known for “The Greatest Showman,” with a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. No release date has been announced.
