‘The Pitt’ is back for another harrowing 15-hour shift. Is it even possible to up the ante?
Can they do it again? After a harrowing debut season that garnered five Emmys, “The Pitt” returns for Season 2 on HBO Max. Star Noah Wyle says the goal this season is not to up the ante in terms of drama. Rather, he says, it's to deepen the exploration of characters and the issues they face. Most of the cast is back, but an expanded ensemble includes a tech-minded new doctor competing with Wyle's old-school Dr. Robby. And there's a lot more medicine for the young doctors — and the actors playing them — to learn. The first episode streams Thursday.

Harvey Weinstein weighing plea on unresolved charge after judge declines to nix conviction
NEW YORK (AP) — A judge says Harvey Weinstein is weighing a potential guilty plea to resolve an undecided rape charge and avoid going to trial for a third time in New York. But, amid the plea talk Thursday, the disgraced movie mogul struck a defiant tone, telling a court hearing: “I know I was unfaithful, I know I acted wrongly, but I never assaulted anyone.” Weinstein spoke after Judge Curtis Farber denied his bid to overturn his lone conviction at his previous trial, a charge of forcibly performing oral sex on a woman in 2006 that carries a potential sentence of up to 25 years in prison. A new trial for the unresolved third-degree rape charge charge is scheduled for March 3.

Movie Review: A real-life '70s hostage drama crackles in Gus Van Sant's 'Dead Man's Wire'
It plays a little loose with facts but the righteous rage of “Dog Day Afternoon” is present enough in Gus Van Sant’s “Dead Man’s Wire.” The based-on-a-true-tale hostage thriller is as deeply 1970s as it is contemporary, writes AP Film Writer Jake Coyle in his review. It’s been seven years since Van Sant directed, and one of the prevailing takeaways from his new film is that that’s too long of a break for the filmmaker of “My Own Private Idaho” and “Good Will Hunting.” Working from a script by Austin Kolodney, Van Sant turns “Dead Man’s Wire” into not a period-piece time capsule but a bracingly relevant drama of outrage and inequality
