DEER LAKE, Pa. — The son of NFL Hall of Fame coach John Madden is buying Muhammad Ali’s former training camp in Pennsylvania.
The camp’s longtime owner, martial arts instructor George Dillman, tells the Associated Press he has sold the rustic hilltop camp in Deer Lake to Mike Madden. He says the deal is closing Thursday.
The purchase price was not disclosed.
Ali trained at the camp throughout the 1970s, using it to prepare for his major fights against George Foreman and Joe Frazier.
Dillman says Madden, a real estate developer, plans to preserve the buildings and memorabilia. Dillman says his son will manage a bed and breakfast and continue to run martial arts camps at the site.
The property has long been for sale. Dillman says interest rose after Ali’s death last month.
