After starting the year 0-3 throughout a powerhouse non-league schedule, the Serra Padres have earned a shot to play for the West Catholic Athletic League title in the last week of the season.

The Padres (6-0 WCAL, 6-3 overall) scored 22 unanswered points in the first quarter en route to a 39-7 home win Saturday over Bellarmine. Serra is now one of two unbeaten teams remaining in the WCAL, and will meet the other, Archbishop Riordan, in a Friday night showdown under temporary lights at Freitas Field.
Serra mixed it up against the Bells (0-6, 2-7), gaining 419 total yards. Eleven different ball carriers combined for 246 rushing yards, paced by senior Iziah Singleton’s seven carries for 68 yards and a touchdown. Juniors Andrew Takapautolo and Malakai Taufoou rushed for a TD apiece, while freshman quarterback William Orr connected with junior slot receiver Charlie Walsh for a 44-yard TD pass, and junior quarterback Caleb Bandel hit junior tight end Jace Cannon for a TD.
Bandel finished 6-of-7 passing for 130 yards. Walsh totaled two catches for a team-high 68 yards. Cannon had three catches for 54 yards. Senior kicker Saul Marks converted his eighth field goal in 11 tries this season, converting from 42 yards.
The Padres will now play for their third WCAL title over the last four years Friday at 7 p.m. Riordan (6-0, 9-0) will be playing for its fourth WCAL title all-time, with its last coming in 2000.
