Freshman outside hitter Poppy McKenzie had a career day, scoring a career-high 17 kills as the Lady Dons (4-1 PAL Bay, 9-11 overall) rallied back for a 26-24, 18-25, 16-25, 25-18, 15-10 win at Sequoia (2-3, 9-9). McKenzie added four service aces, while senior outside hitter Sophie Rubinstein recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs. Junior Gabriella Xiao added a double-double with 27 assists and 14 digs, and junior Sosefina Tatola had 13.
Half Moon Bay 3, Mills 0
Gabby Harrison scored 14 kills and two aces to lead the Cougars (5-0 PAL Ocean, 10-8 overall) to a 25-18, 25-18, 25-7 sweep at Mills (3-2, 7-8). Amelia Ortolan added six kills and Caoimhe Gallagher had five. Kate Billington was HMB’s defensive anchor with 19 digs.
Menlo-Atherton 3, Carlmont 0
Senior outside hitter Duru Ruacan totaled 14 kills and senior Danielle Eline added 13 kills as the Bears (4-1 PAL Bay, 11-6 overall) swept at home 25-22, 25-21, 25-16 at Carlmont (3-2, 7-7). Sienna Morales, Sarah Littlefield and Kayla Greenbaum totaled four blocks apiece for M-A, while senior Meki Maile recorded 13 digs and senior Kiela King had 10.
Sacred Heart Prep 3, Notre Dame-Belmont 2
The Gators (1-0 WBAL Foothill, 12-5 overall) won a thrilling five-setter to open West Bay Athletic League play 25-17, 25-22, 18-25, 23-25, 15-13 at home against Notre Dame-Belmont (0-1, 8-4). NDB senior Gia Rivera totaled 25 kills and swung at a .360 clip, while senior Adrianna Agresti totaled six kills and a team-high 16 digs.
Mercy-Burlingame 3, Menlo School 1
The Bears (1-0 WBAL Football, 12-4 overall) won in four sets 25-22, 14-25, 25-23, 25-15 over Menlo School (0-1, 5-8) at Serra. Senior outside hitter Ava Cacao recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 21 digs, both team-highs, senior middle Mia Ferdinand totaled eight kills and four blocks, and senior libero Amira Festejo Rivera scored four aces and added 14 digs.
Summit Shasta 3, El Primero 0
Sophomore outside hitter Daniela Ruiz served up a storm for the Black Bears (2-0 PSAL Bay, 9-3 overall), firing 13 aces in Summit Shasta’s 25-5, 25-19, 25-9 win at El Primero-San Jose (0-2, 8-9). Ruiz added six kills, while junior Bianco Flores led the Black Bears with nine kills.

Burlingame (5-0 PAL Bay, 8-4 overall) remained unbeaten in PAL Bay Division play with a 25-9, 25-16, 25-14 win playing as the visiting team at San Mateo (0-5, 0-16).
Woodside (1-4 PAL Bay, 6-9 overall) won a grueling Game 1 in extra points in a sweep 34-32, 25-22, 25-19 at Hillsdale (1-4, 7-10).
Capuchino (5-0 PAL Ocean, 10-3 overall) swept 25-8, 25-11, 25-10 at home against South City (1-4, 7-12).
Terra Nova (4-1 PAL Ocean, 8-6 overall) swept 25-6, 25-20, 25-10 at home against Jefferson (0-5, 1-7).
El Camino (2-3 PAL Ocean, 2-3 overall) cruised at home 25-11, 25-10, 25-18 paset Westmoor (0-5, 0-16). Westmoor sophomore Mabel Soe scored three service aces.
Nueva School (1-1 PSAL Bay, 6-7 overall) earned its first Private School Athletic League win of the season 25-19, 25-16, 25-18 over More-San Jose (0-2, 4-5).
Crystal (2-1 WBAL Skyline, 9-2 overall) came up short in a 25-23, 23-25, 26-28, 25-23, 15-12 loss at Harker-San Jose (4-0, 7-5) in a battle of unbeatens in West Bay Athletic League Skyline Division play.
Design Tech (1-1 PSAL Bay, 5-7 overall) took the first two sets before falling 24-26, 18-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-9 loss at home to University Prep-San Jose (2-0, 6-6).

The Scots continue to roll, staying unbeaten in PAL Bay action with the sweep of the Ravens. A pair of freshmen — Zoe Hendricks and Amelie Du Chau at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively — won their matches in straight sets without dropping a game, winning 6-0, 6-0. Carlmont (6-0 PAL Bay, 8-0 overall) lost only nine games over seven matches and 14 sets.
Aragon 6, Menlo-Atherton 1
The Dons have established themselves as the second-best team in the Bay Division as they dominated the Bears. Hayley Chong, playing at No. 4 singles for Aragon (5-1 PAL Bay, 10-3 overall), won her match at love, 6-0, 6-0. Only one match went three sets, with Aragon’s No. 1 doubles team of Anna He and Allison Newman topped M-A’s Holly Cheung and Acacia Yoon, 6-5, 4-6, 10-6. M-A’s No. 1 singles player, Tess Ellingson, continues to show she is by far the best player in league as she won another match without losing a game. The Bears fall to 3-3 in Bay play.
Burlingame 7, Half Moon Bay 0
The Panthers kept pace with Aragon in second place after sweeping the Cougars. Sam Tom won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for Burlingame (5-1 PAL Bay), while the No. 1 doubles team of Lexi Podkaminer and Hailey Miller won their match, 6-0, 6-1.
San Mateo 5, Hillsdale 2
The Bearcats rebounded from a loss to Carlmont to beat the Knights. The No. 1 doubles team for San Mateo (2-4 PAL Bay, 3-5 overall), Tatum Fritts and Francesca Wesley cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win. The No. 3 singles match was the best of the day, as Hillsdale’s Jenna Wan got past Dominique Mostafavi, rallying from a set down to post a 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 victory. The Knights are still looking for their first Bay Division win, falling to 0-6.
Westmoor 4, Terra Nova 3
In a rare close match, the Rams slipped past the Tigers in an Ocean Division matchup. And the wins were broken down by singles and doubles. Westmoor (2-4 PAL Ocean) sept the four singles matches, while Terra Nova (1-5) won all three doubles matches. Shannon Mercardo, playing at No. 1 singles for the Rams, No. 3 singles Stephanie Lim and No. 4 singles Ariel Orlino all won their matches at love, 6-0, 6-0. The Tigers dominated at doubles, with the No.1 team of Alexis Smith and Avery Ayers won their match 6-1, 6-0, while the No. 2 doubles team of Madison Skurko and Amelia Roberts won 6-0, 6-1.
Woodside 4, Capuchino 3
The teams split the four singles matches, with the Wildcats taking two of three doubles matches to pull out the win over the Mustangs. Woodside’s top two singles players, Malia Furukawa and Madeline Lee both won their matches , 6-1, 6-0. Capuchino’s No. 2 doubles team Anja Adonovic and Indra Redding-Lapuz posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Woodside improves to 5-1 in Ocean play, while Cap falls a game behind to 4-2.

Girls’ water polo
Sacred Heart Prep 10, Arroyo Grande 7, OT
The Gators beat the Eagles for the second time in a week, needing overtime to do it. After leading 5-3 at halftime, SHP was outscored 4-2 to go into extra time. The Gators then shut out Arroyo Grande in the two mandatory overtime periods, 3-0, to take the victory. Natalia Szczerba led the offense for SHP, scoring five goals. Vivian Golub added a hat trick for the Gators. Goalie Ellison Brush finished with 14 saves to thwart the Eagles.
Burlingame 18, Mills 4
The Panthers cruised to the win over the Vikings. Audrey Flagg poured in five goals to lead Burlingame (5-1 PAL Ocean), which moved into a second-place tie with Hillsdale, one game behind division-leading Sequoia. Acacia Yu led Mills (2-4) with three goals.
San Mateo 19, Capuchino 4
Hannah Young and Sanjoli Chattopadhyah each netted hat tricks to lead the Bearcats to the win over the Mustangs. Ava Quintana scored half of the Mustang’s goals. San Mateo improves to 4-1 in PAL Ocean play, while Capuchino falls to 0-6.

Aragon 219, Carlmont 222
The Dons handed the Scots their first Bay Division loss. Kara Kim led Carlmont by carding a 40. Ellie Molholm finished with a 43, while Tessa Lee and Dakota Cheng each shot 44s.
