Half Moon Bay 12, South City 10
The Cougars, playing their PAL Ocean Division opener, got past the Warriors on the coast Wednesday.
South City (1-1 PAL Ocean, 2-2 overall) opened up a 6-3 lead after scoring a run in the top of the fifth. But HMB (1-0, 4-1) rallied for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take 9-6 lead. The Cougars then added three more runs in the sixth before weathering a four-run, seventh-inning rally by the Warriors to take the win.
Sydney Sarabia drove in four runs on two hits for HMB. Tessa Deeney and Kylie King each added two RBIs. Zoey Schwartz got the win in relief of Mariah Deeney. Schwartz worked the final 2 2/3 innings and was the beneficiary of the Cougars’ offensive rally. Schwartz and Deeney combined for eight strikeouts.
Madyson Jade Quintanilla had a day for South City. The sophomore was a triple shy of the cycle, but still singled, doubled, homered and drove in four runs.
Mercy 16, El Camino 2
The Bears opened PAL Ocean Division play by rolling over the Colts.
Leading 1-0 after one inning, Mercy (1-0 PAL Ocean, 5-2 overall) took control with an eight-run second and ended the game with six runs in the fifth.
Olivia Eastburn drove in three runs to lead the Bears, hitting a home run in the process. Melina Antonio, Charlotte Kell, Andrea Martin, Viviana Reyes and Kathleen Graupera all added two RBIs each for Mercy.
El Camino (1-1, 5-2) had only one hit, a Cassandra Sandoval RBI single in the top of the fourth.
Woodside 3, St. Ignatius 2, 8 innings
Woodside ran its scoreless streak to 20 innings in a row before SI scored twice in the top of the third.
And for the first time this season, undefeated Woodside (6-0) rallied for a walk-off win in the bottom of the eighth. Marisa Calderon delivered the game-winning hit. Ava Baker had a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth.
Hannah Walker got the start and no decision for Woodside, allowing two earned runs on five hits in six innings. Calderson got the win with two innings of no-hit ball.
SI got a two-run double from Olivia Dollard to account for its runs.
Notre Dame-Belmont 7, Aragon 6
The Tigers built a 5-3 lead after two innings on their way to the non-league win.
NDB (3-4) upped its lead to 7-3 before Aragon (5-5) closed to 7-6 after scoring three runs in the top of the fifth.
Eliana Crespin drove in two runs for NDB, with Hailey Truong picking up the win, the second of three Tigers pitchers.
Aragon got RBIs from Makayla Hafoka, Riley Wideman, Zoe Farrigan and Pankhuri Chopra.
In other action...
Terra Nova (4-0) stayed undefeated following a 12-9 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral (1-2).
Baseball
Capuchino 2, Terra Nova 0
Jordan Estrella and Logan Arceo combined on a four-hit shutout for the Mustangs. Estella worked into the seventh before giving way to Arceo to get the final two outs and save the victory.
Cole Douglas and Dominic Fanfara each had an RBI for Capuchino (6-0).
Three pitchers combined for Terra Nova (3-2) to limit Capuchino to just four hits, with Jesse Martinez being saddled with the hard-luck loss. He allowed one earned run on four hits in six innings of work.
Woodside 16, Crystal 6
The Wildcats hung a mercy-rule loss on the Gryphons, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first to set the tone.
Hunter Taylor, John Tinson and Andrew Ortiz all drove in two runs for Woodside (5-2), making a winner of Colby Fernandez, who gave up one hit in three innings of work.
Mills 5, Harker 0
Vikings pitcher Tino Janke went the distance, limiting the Eagles to just two hits, striking out nine to help lead his team to the win over the Eagles.
Janke, Tyler Yuan and Derek Delima all drove in a run for Mills (3-3).
Harker drops to 3-2 on the season.
Serra 7, Foothill-Pleasanton 4
The Padres rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Falcons in Pleasanton Wednesday.

Down 2-0 after three innings, Serra (6-1) took the lead for good with four runs in the top of the fourth before adding a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
In other action ...
Menlo School (4-3) topped Riordan (3-3), 6-3.
Aragon (3-3) scored three times in the top of the seventh to beat Fremont-Sunnyvale (2-2), 6-5.
Leigh (4-2) handed Menlo-Atherton (1-5) its fifth loss in six games, 7-4.
Boys’ volleyball
Woodside 3, El Camino 2
The Wildcats outlasted the Colts in the PAL Ocean Division opener for both, with Woodside posting a 22-25, 25-13, 18-25, 25-17, 15-12.
Ivan Cheung had 12 service aces for El Camino, while Tyler Lin had eight kills and nine digs for the Colts.
Mills 3, Westmoor 1
The Vikings beat the Rams in four sets — 26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17.
Jayden Jiang had a huge day offensively for Mills, putting down 20 kills and adding four service aces. Collin Chen added 15 kills for the Vikings, while Ian Lin pumped out 42 assists.
Westmoor was led by Nyan Aung, who had 17 kills. Zach Lacsamana added 12 kills, while Rams setter Gordon Zhang had 34 assists and four aces.

Capuchino (1-0 PAL Ocean, 3-6 overall) swept South City (0-1), 25-12, 25-23, 25-20.
Sequoia (1-0 PAL Ocean, 3-3 overall) blanked Jefferson (0-1), 25-18, 25-14, 25-22.

The Grizzlies beat both the Panthers and Sharks in a tri-meet.
Jefferson’s Robert Saulny-Green, a senior, and Grizzlies freshman Deondre Chism tied for the 100-meter win, with both clocking a time of 11.55. Saulny-Green would add the 200 win as well, in a time of 23.76.
Jefferson’s Santiago Sanchez won both the 800 and 1,600 in times of 2:06.85 and 4:50.94, respectively. Gherie Orta-Garcia also picked up points for the Grizzlies by winning the shot put (34-10) and the discus (90-2).
Girls’ track and field
Burlingame 69, Jefferson 8
Burlingame 69, Oceana 10
Jefferson 17, Oceana 7
Burlingame’s Ellora Horan swept the hurdles races, posting a time of 17.87 in the 100 hurdles and picking up a win in the 300 hurdles with a time of 52.69.
Izzy Erickson was another double winner for the Panthers, as she took the shot put (29-1) and the discus (70-0).
Boys’ golf
Half Moon Bay 192, South City 201
The Cougars got past the Warriors at Mariners Point Golf Complex in Foster City.
HMB’s Malcolm Henry and South City’s Ian Alferez tied for low-round honors as both shot 35s. Jackson Weimer added a 36 for the Cougars, while Miles Meyer and Zach Briggs came in with 40s for HMB.
Joseph Preciado and Aaden Amigleo came in with 39s for South City, while Joshua Gunardi finished with a 43 for the Warriors.
Nueva 172, Menlo School 172, King’s Academy 209
The Mavericks beat both Knights squads at Sunnyvale Golf Course.
Nueva’s Bence Odody carded a 3-under 32 to shoot the low round of the day. Mo Chaston had a 2-under 34 for the Mavericks, a score shared by Menlo’s William Beesley. Riley Jason had an even-par 35 for Menlo, Chase Edwards posted a 3-over 38 and Spencer Toland a 4-over 39.
