Trailing 36-32 heading into the fourth quarter, the Cougars (2-1) used a 24-10 run over the closing eight minutes to earn the road win and hand Urban-San Francisco (3-1) its first loss of the year.
Senior guard Gio Garduno-Martin led the way for HMB with 16 points and eight rebounds, while senior Caiden Guevara added 11 points and junior Levi Meighan had 10. Junior Preston Wyatt totaled five rebounds and netted three key free throws in the closing minutes.
Menlo 59, Pacific Grove 53
Eight different Knights scored as Menlo (4-0) earned its fourth straight win to open the year at Pacific Grove (1-2). Junior Kai Mawakana led the way with 11 points, while seniors Evan Arcilla and Ethan Zhao scored 10 apiece. Gabriel Valencia led Pacific Grove with a game-high 19 points.

Woodside (0-5) fell 50-42 to James Logan-Union City (2-5) at the Russ Peterich Viking Tip-Off Classic at Montgomery High School Tournament in Santa Rosa.
Girls’ basketball
Menlo 63, Independence 20
Through five games, Menlo (4-1) has now doubled up the opposition in cumulative season score after a blowout at home of Independence-San Jose (104). The Lady Knights have now outscored opponents 258-118 on the year. Freshman Sierra Wynn led the way for Menlo with a team-high 13 points. Junior Ava Allen added 12 points, and junior Sophia Longinidis finished with 10.
San Mateo 39, Jefferson 25
Junior guard Bella Fong scored a game-high 19 points at home to lead the Bearcats (5-0) to their fifth straight win against head coach Paul Carion’s former program Jefferson (3-1). Junior forward Violet MacAvoy added a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds for San Mateo. Senior Nia Hicks paced the Grizzlies with 10 points.

Menlo-Atherton (3-1) fell 35-24 to Oxnard (5-3) in the championship game of the San Luis Obispo Tournament.
Woodside (2-1) had a two-game winning streak snapped with a 55-33 loss at Leigh-San Jose (2-1).

Serra 63, Sacramento 57
The Padres (2-1) advanced to the championship game of the 37th Annual Vontoure Classic at De La Salle-Concord, rallying for the win over Sacramento (3-3).
Senior guard Wyatt Blanco led the way with 18 points, while adding seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Seniors Ryan Rice, Aaron Allen and Zorba Apostolou acored 10 points apiece, while Rice added six assists and four rebound. Senior forward Clausen Schmidt finished with eight points and six rebounds, and senior Tyler Bailey totaled a team-high eight rebounds to go with six assists.
Crystal 52, Summit Shasta 48

The Gryphons (2-1) closed with a 22-point fourth quarter to overcome Summit Shasta (0-3) at the Gryphon Den. Seniors Gavin Diaz and Marcus Kueh led the way for Crystal with 15 points apiece.
Menlo 75, Stevenson 27
Senior Ethan Zhao scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Knights (3-0) to their third straight win at home against Stevenson-Pebble Beach (1-1). Sophomore Tres Onyejekwe added 10 points for Menlo.
Burlingame 68, Wilcox 41
The Panthers (3-1) used a 27-7 run in the second quarter to get back in the win column against Wilcox at the Gary Brinck Tournament at Westmont High School in Campbell. Senior guard Jean-Luc Uharriet connected for three 3s to score a team-high 11 points, while junior forward Dylan Black added 10. Seniors Zach Zamalin, Rowan Maher and Payton Fong Heady worked the boards with six rebounds apiece, and freshman Noah Edling tallied four steals.

Summit Shasta 52, Presentation 23
Freshman Daina Randall scored in double figures for the fifth straight time to start her varsity career, pouring in a game-high 17 points to lead the Black Bears (3-2) past Presentation-San Jose (1-2) at the Kelly Shea Gallo Memorial Tournament at Mills.
Randall shot 62% from the field, while sharing the team-high of seven rebounds with junior Chloe Macario, who added five steals and four assists. Freshman Jordin Lee added 12 points and four steals for Shasta.
Menlo 71, Design Tech 21
Sophomore Anika Shah totaled 14 points, six rebounds and four steals to lead Menlo (3-1) at home against Design Tech (0-2). Junior Sophia Longinidis and freshman Sierra Wynn added 11 points apiece for the Lady Knights. Junior Eve Casile scored seven points to lead Design Tech.
Sacred Heart Prep 59, El Camino 42
The Gators (2-2) got back in the win column against El Camino (3-2) in the semifinals of the Kelly Shea Gallo Memorial Tournament at Mills. Senior Kate Baron led the way with a game-high 23 points. Sophomore Jocelyn Jones knocked down three 3s to add 13 points, while freshman Bella Jansen-Oliges also had 13.
