A South San Francisco woman was arrested early Friday after she allegedly vandalized several vehicles in the Hillsdale Mall parking lot before entering the closed mall and stealing items, San Mateo police said.
Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person at 5:16 a.m. During the investigation, police learned that the suspect, Valissa Guzman Lopez, 40, had shattered a car window, entered the vehicle, and damaged multiple others in the lot, authorities said.
Police said Guzman Lopez then went inside the mall, which was closed to the public, and took a bicycle and several cell phones from the security lost-and-found area.
She was detained nearby as she attempted to leave on the stolen bicycle.
Guzman Lopez was arrested on suspicion of two counts of second-degree burglary and felony vandalism, police said. She was booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
