Alhambra 69, Nueva 28
Nueva (3-11) fell in a tough non-league matchup 69-28 at Alhambra (13-5). Alhambra snapped a two-game skid, both loses coming in Diablo League play, to Campolindo and Clayton Valley Charter. Prior to that, the Bulldogs won seven in a row, including non-league wins over South City, Jefferson and Oceana.
Senior guard Colin Chu converted three 3-pointers to lead Nueva with nine points, while sophomore Trevor Cho added eight.
The Mavericks have now dropped two straight, and four of their last five.
Homestead 55, Aragon 52
Aragon (12-4) came up short in its comeback bid at the Monta Vista Challenge tournament, falling to Homestead-Cupertino (8-8). The Dons trailed by 9 at the half, but outscored Homestead 17-12 in the third quarter and 14-13 in the fourth to make a run at it.
The loss snaps a nine-game winning streak for Aragon.

Sacred Heart Prep (7-7) fell 68-49 to North Bay power Marin Catholic-Kentfield (16-2) at the MLK Invitational at San Marin High School.
Girls’ basketball
Presentation 39, Mercy-Burlingame 29
The Bears (6-7) led just briefly in the early going on a Maddalena Guzzetta bucket, but Presentation (4-10) swung ahead on a Siena Zuffi 3-pointer and never trailed again on its home court in San Jose. Zuffi finished with 14 points, while sophomore Rylee De Maio scored a game-high 18 points for the Panthers. Mercy was led by Guzzetta with eight points, and freshman Taryn Smith added seven.

Mills (5-8) fell 50-47 to Los Gatos (10-5) at the Monta Vista Shootout. The Lady Vikings won three quarters, but couldn’t overcome a 19-9 Los Gatos run in the second.
Woodside (10-3) claimed a 39-26 non-league rivalry victory at home against Sequoia (7-8). It marks the seventh straight win for the Wildcats.
Summit Shasta (8-7) fell 63-53 at home to Washington-SF (8-6).

Boys’ basketball
Serra 60, Valley Christian 54
The Padres (1-3 WCAL, 9-5 overall) earned their first West Catholic Athletic League victory of the season in comeback fashion. Trailing 40-33 early in the fourth quarter, Serra responded with a 15-0 run to swing ahead and held off Valley Christian (1-3, 9-5) down the stretch at Morton Family Gymnasium. With the win, Serra snaps a three-game losing streak.
Senior forward Wyatt Blanco led the Padres with 15 points, four assists and three steals. Senior guard Sebastian Margate added 12 points for Serra, senior guard Ryan Rice added eight, and junior forward Jace Cannon totaled seven points and four rebounds.
Half Moon Bay 65, Carlmont 56
Trailing by 2 heading into the fourth quarter, the Cougars (4-0 PAL Bay, 10-6 overall) finished on a 20-9 run to claim the comeback victory at home against Carlmont (2-3, 7-8) to win their fifth straight. The Scots opened fast, jumping out to a 21-11 lead by the end of the first quarter. HMB has now won five straight.
Senior center Owen Perez led HMB with 25 points, while senior Gio Garduno-Martin added 21. Carlmont was paced by junior Jordan Rice with 15 points, and junior Mikael Bruhnsteyn hit four 3-pointers to score 12.
With the win, HMB remains unbeaten in PAL Bay Division play, tied atop the standings with Menlo-Atherton. The two Bay Division frontrunners square off Friday night at M-A, scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
Burlingame 50, Sequoia 42
Burlingame (3-2 PAL Bay, 11-5 overall) staged a second-half comeback in a home win over Sequoia (1-3, 7-9). The Panthers were down 31-23 at halftime, but closed the deficit to 2 by the end of the third quarter and finished on a 13-3 run in the fourth. Sophomore forward Lucca Maher led Burlingame with 18 points, while senior Payton Fong Heady and junior Max Robenalt added seven apiece. Sequoia sophomore Xavier Ferretty scored a team-high 12 points, and senior Isaiah Hahn Tapper had 11.
Terra Nova 58, Jefferson 53
The Tigers (1-3 PAL Bay, 8-8 overall) used an 11-6 run in the fourth quarter to force overtime, then outdueled Jefferson (0-3, 6-10) in the extra period in Pacifica to earn their first win in PAL Bay Division play. Three Terra Nova players finished in double figures, led by senior Kai Gieraths’ 18 points, while senior Jonathan Martins drilled three 3s to add 15, and junior Jesse Martinez scored 14. Jefferson senior Jayden Peralta scored a team-high 12 points, and senior Raymond Villar added 10.
Aragon 41, San Mateo 31
The Dons (4-0 PAL Ocean, 12-3 overall) won their ninth straight, riding the hot hand of senior Armando Cajbon at home against crosstown San Mateo (1-3, 8-8). Cajbon knocked down three 3-pointers to score a game-high 13 points for Aragon, and senior Kaleb Brodeth added seven. San Mateo was led by twin brothers Bryan and Byron Ehlerman, who scored 10 points apiece.
With the win, Aragon remains tied atop the PAL Ocean Division with Woodside, with the two teams slated to meet just once this year in the final week of the season.
Woodside 62, El Camino 41
Senior guard Luke Grech was on fire from beyond the arc, hitting six 3-pointers at net a game-high 28 points to lead the Wildcats (4-0 PAL Ocean, 7-7) to their fourth straight win at El Camino (2-2, 7-8). Woodside led by 1 heading into the fourth quarter and finished on a 23-3 run. Junior Marco Antonino added 12 points for the Wildcats, while Markson Jacques paced El Camino with 14 points.
Hillsdale 64, South City 38
The Fighting Knights (3-1 PAL Ocean, 5-10 overall) took a 42-35 lead into the fourth quarter, and finished on a 22-3 run at home to take down South City (2-2, 6-9) for their second straight win. Senior forward Freeman Lane netted a game-high 16 points for Hillsdale, and senior Tiago Fontes scored 10. South City was led by senior Dexter Balauat’s 13 points.

Capuchino 52, Oceana 33
The Mustangs (2-2 PAL Ocean, 7-9 overall) won all four quarters at Oceana (0-4, 5-11), led by senior guard Matthew Alas with 16 points. Oceana junior Oliver Primmer scored a team-high nine points.
Mills 49, Westmoor 44
Senior guard Kendrick Choi hit four 3-pointers to score a team-high 14 points as the Vikings (2-2 PAL Ocean, 4-10 overall) snapped a two-game losing streak at Westmoor (0-4, 5-11). Junior guard Brayden Beliso added 10 points for Mills, while Westmoor senior Austin Prado scored a game-high 21 points.
King’s Academy 54, Sacred Heart Prep 44
Senior guard Alex Osterloh’s 24 points were not enough as the Gators (1-1 WBAL, 7-6 overall) fell at the King’s Academy-Sunnyvale (2-0, 12-3). Osterloh added five assists, five rebounds and three steals, while senior center Oliver Marcin led SHP with seven rebounds. The loss marks the Gators’ fourth straight in head-to-head play with King’s dating back to last season.
Priory 70, Menlo 48
Menlo (1-1 WBAL, 9-6 overall) dropped all four quarters to defending CIF Division IV state champion Priory (2-0, 11-4) in Portola Valley. Senior guard Ethan Zhao netted a team-high 16 points for Menlo, while sophomore JayAr Davis added 10. Priory senior Mate Patotai scored a game-high 17 points and totaled eight rebounds for the Panthers.
University Prep 60, Nueva 56
The Mavericks (2-3 PSAL, 3-10 overall) came up short in a 60-56 loss at University Prep-San Jose (3-1, 10-4), despite a 16-7 run in the fourth quarter after trailing by 13. Senior forward Evan Wang converted three 3-pointers to pace Nueva with 15 points, while senior Ethan Heller added 12. Nueva shot just 10 of 18 from the free-throw line.

Design Tech (5-0 PSAL North, 5-6 overall) rolled to a 67-20 win in Private School Athletic League play at East Palo Alto (0-3, 1-8).

Half Moon Bay 59, Carlmont 47
After Carlmont used a 14-6 fourth-quarter run to force overtime, the Cougars (4-0 PAL Bay, 12-3 overall) finished on a 14-2 run in the extra period to win it at home. HMB was paced by a game-high 27 points from senior center Zoey Lemoge, while senior Xochitl Nieves added 13. The Scots (1-3, 10-6) were led by junior Sky Yee’s 18 points.
With the win, HMB stays tied for first place in the PAL Bay Division with Menlo-Atherton. The two teams meet Friday night at M-A for a scheduled 6:16 p.m. start.
Aragon 51, San Mateo 44
The Lady Dons (1-3 PAL Bay, 5-8 overall) snapped a five-game losing streak with their first PAL Bay victory at home against San Mateo (1-2, 11-4). Senior forward Jayda Parangan scored a team-high 17 points for Aragon, and senior Daisy Pantoja Beltran added 16. The Bearcats were paced by a game-high 20 points from junior Bella Fong.
Capuchino 34, El Camino 30
The Lady Mustangs (4-0 PAL Ocean, 11-2 overall) won their eighth straight to remain deadlocked atop the PAL Ocean Division standings for a three-way tie for first with Burlingame and Woodside. El Camino (2-2, 6-9) jumped out to an 11-4 lead on its home court, but Cap used a 14-5 second-quarter run to swing ahead.
Senior guard Kailee Gonzales and sophomore forward Lorelai Shinn scored 10 points apiece for the Mustangs. Two Lady Colts shared the game-high, with senior Keilani Der and sophomore Lhian Dela Cruz totaled 12 points apiece.
Woodside 51, South City 38
Sophomore Lyla Rich splashed down for seven 3-pointers to lead the Wildcats (4-0 PAL Ocean, 9-3 overall) to their seventh straight win. The run matches Woodside’s best winning streak since 2012-13, when the Wildcats won 13 in a row. Woodside also recorded a seven-game winning streak in 2018-19.
Rich finished with a game-high 23 points on her home court, while sophomore Meadow Long scored 11 and freshman Anni Bouman had eight. South City (1-3, 8-8) was paced by senior Liala Kinchen with 17 points.
Burlingame 48, Sequoia 37
The Panthers (4-0 PAL Ocean, 9-5 overal) opened a 35-8 lead by halftime and never looked back on their home court against Sequoia (1-3, 7-7). The win keeps Burlingame tied for first place with Capuchino and Woodside for first place in the PAL Ocean Division. Three Panthers scored in double figures, led by senior forward Haleh Ansari with 14, while senior center Kendall Gorshen totaled 11 and senior guard Addie Uhrich 10. Sequoia sophomore Olivia Macuga scored a team-high 10 points.
Terra Nova 50, Westmoor 30
The Tigers (3-1 PAL Ocean, 7-4 overall) got back in the win column at home against Westmoor (1-3, 6-9). Junior guard Reese Kelley totaled a team-high 19 points for Terra Nova, with senior Gabby Dyogi adding 11. Westmoor junior Jhacelyn Capistrano scored a game-high 24 points.
Jefferson 43, Oceana 16
The Grizzlies (1-3 PAL Ocean, 8-7 overall) snapped a four-game losing streak with a landslide win at Oceana (0-4, 0-10). Senior Nia Hicks paced Jeff with nine points, while junior Princess Warit and freshman Roxanne Taguiam totaled eight apiece. Oceana junior Mika Escobedo shared the game-high with nine points.
Sacred Heart Prep 73, Eastside Prep 18
The Gators (2-0 WBAL Foothill, 4-7 overall) rallied for the program’s highest single-game point total since 2019-20 with the home win over Eastside College Prep (0-2, 6-5). The SHP shooters reached the 20-point plateau, with senior Katherine Baron recording a double-double with game-highs of 22 points and 13 rebounds, to go with six assists and seven steals. Jocelyn Jones and Bella Jansen-Olliges added 20 points apiece for the Gators.
Nueva School 53, University Prep 25
Senior center Julia Randolph and junior forward Willa Beard each recorded double-doubles as the Mavericks (3-1 PSAL, 6-6 overall) cruised to the win at University Prep-San Jose (0-2, 1-4). Nueva junior Anjani Mariathasan scored a team-high 19 points for Nueva, while Randolph totaled 16 points, 25 rebounds and four blocked shots. Beard added 13 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Sophomore Camilla Khiari added 11 rebounds and two blocks.

Notre Dame-Belmont (1-1 WBAL Foothill, 12-1 overall) got back in the win column wiht a 50-45 victory at Menlo School (1-1, 10-3).
Design Tech (4-0 PSAL, 6-3 overall) rolled to a 45-18 win at East Palo Alto (1-3, 2-7).
