Aiden James had a big day for the Tigers (3-1), homering twice, including a grand slam, while firing five scoreless innings to earn the win on the mound at home against Santa Cruz (2-1).
James went 3 for 3 with seven RBIs, and fueled a six-run second with a grand slam. He added a solo homer later in the game. In his second start of the year, the senior right-hander allowed six hits through five scoreless innings, while striking out one. His record improves to 1-1.
Terra Nova totaled 10 hits on the day. Senior Joey Donati and junior Brody Finale added two hits and one RBI apiece.
Menlo 12, Santa Clara 2
The Knights (3-3) rode sophomores Fletcher Cahill and Liam Widner to their second straight win in Atherton. Widner fired five innings of two-hit shutout ball, walking one and striking out five, to earn his first win of the year. The sophomore added a double and two RBIs at the plate. Cahill paced Menlo with two doubles and four RBIs. Senior Chuck Wynn added two hits with a double and two RBIs. Zach Gellegos and Josh Capps recorded an RBI apiece for Santa Clara (1-4).
San Mateo 5, Lincoln 4
Junior Hudson Brandt went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and sophomore Wilson Morales added two hits with an RBI as the Bearcats (3-1) rallied for their second straight win at home against Lincoln-SF (0-3). Junior right-hander Jesus Olivas earned the win, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits through five innings of work. Olivas walked two and struck out eight. Senior right-hander Tyce Copus fired to scoreless frames, allowing one hit while striking out three, to earn the save. Senior Xavier Malizia paced Lincoln with two hits, while junior Wyatt Toloski had a single and two RBIs.
South City 9, Washington 1
Senior Gio Bernal had two hits with a double, a home run and two RBIs as the Warriors (3-0) rolled to their third straight win at home against Washington-SF (1-3). Junior starting pitcher Josh Nabung fired three shutout innings to earn the win, allowing one hit while striking out five. South City pitchers allowed four hits, while relievers Jayden Tejada and Adam Keith combined for four innings and five strikeouts.
Hillsdale 7, Lowell 5
Senior Tommy Schultz went 1 for 3 with two RBIs, while earning the win on the mound to lead the Hillsdale (3-1) to the home victory over Lowell-SF (3-3). Schultz allowed one run on five hits through three innings of work. Senior Hugo Guzman paced the Knights with two hits, and Jack Bonner added two RBIs. Senior Cecil Reed paced Lowell with two hits and two RBIs.
Sacred Heart Prep 9, Los Altos 2
Junior starting pitcher Kyle Sweeney worked three shutout innings to earn the win, and junior Lucca Larson spanned the final four innings in relief to earn the save as the Gators (3-3) won their second straight at home over Los Altos (0-4). Sophomore Brayden Berta went 0 for 2, but led SHP with three RBIs, and junior JP Durrett added a single and two RBIs.
Monterey 7, Carlmont 6
The Scots jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the fourth, but Monterey (2-1) rallied for five runs in the fifth and scored the go-ahead run in the seventh. Junior Nathan Werbinski paced the Scots (2-2) with two hits and two RBIs, and junior Caden Stinson added two hits. Monterey sophomore Anthony Esquivel went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Half Moon Bay (2-2) fell 9-3 on the road at the King’s Academy-Sunnyvale (5-1).
Jefferson (1-3) dropped its second straight, 32-0, at Monta Vista-Cupertino (3-0).

Notre Dame-Belmont 15, Marina 1
Branham 5, Notre Dame-Belmont 3
Playing in the Watsonville tournament, the Tigers trounced the Mariners in a mercy-rule win before falling to the Bruins. NDB (2-4) scored four runs in the first, five in the second and six in the third against Marina (0-4). Eliana Crespin homered and drove in two runs for the Tigers, with Hailey Truong also going deep. Molly Hipps, Nicole Stancil and Stella Hird all added two RBIs, as well. Against Branham (4-2), the Tigers found themselves trailing 5-1 after three innings. Truong, Hipps and Allie Dorn all drove in a run for NDB.
Carlmont 5, Notre Dame-Belmont 2
Carlmont 5, Watsonville 5
The Battle of Belmont had to go all the way to Watsonville to be played, with the Scot emerging victorious. Alyssa Victory, Miranda McCormick and Jordyn Sbragia all had an RBI for Carlmont (2-2-1). Against Watsonville (0-3-1), Carlmont found itself trailing 5-0 before scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth and tying the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth before the game reached its time limit.

Capuchino 21, Mills 2
Ten different Mustangs got in the hit column as an early-season rivalry matchup turned into a shellacking in Millbrae. Cap (5-0) has now won five straight to start the season, outscoring teams 62-4. It marks the Mustangs’ best start since 2020, when they won six straight prior to the season being canceled after seven games due to the pandemic.
Cap scored six times in the top of the first, and kept adding on, including a 10-run outburst in the seventh. Senior Dominic Fanara had two hits with a double, a home run and six RBIs, sophomore Jaxon Lazzari had three hits with a double and three RBIs, junior Cole Douglas had three hits with two RBIs, and senior James Ayoob drove in four runs for the Mustangs.
On the mound, Fanara and junior Nathan Meyer combined to walk 10, but Mills (2-2) totaled just one hit on the day on a single by junior Tino Janke. Fanara earned the win, allowing one run on no hits. Meyer earned a regulation save with three scoreless innings of work.

St. Francis 10, Sequoia 0
St. Francis pitchers Kyle McMillan and Antonio Madrigal combined on a one-hitter as the Lancers (4-1) rolled to a regulation 10-0 win Friday in Mountain View against Sequoia. Junior Luke Ostrander recorded the Ravens’ only hit of the day on a bunt single down the third-base line. With the third baseman playing back, McMillan hurried over to field the ball and bobbled slightly, but Ostrander had the play beat regardless, Ravens manager Mike Doyle said.
McMillan worked five innings, while striking out five. The only baserunner the junior right-hander allowed came via a fielding error. Madrigal, a senior left-hander out of Menlo Park, closed out the historic feat with two perfect innings of relief.
The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Ravens (4-1), who opened the year with three wins at the Red Tamone Memorial Tournament at MacDonald High School in San Jose, including victories over Central Coast Section Division IV champion Santa Clara, and CCS Division II runner-up Wilcox.
Menlo-Atherton 6, Woodside 5
The Bears (1-3) escaped a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth in a shortened non-league game at Woodside. The Wildcats (3-2) scored three times in the bottom of the sixth, but freshman right-hander Owen Coupe closed it out with one-third inning of work to record his first varsity save. M-A was powered by a solo home run from junior Merrick Lee, while seniors MJ Ellazar and Joseph Pagee drove in two runs apiece. Senior starting pitcher Max Brucacher earned the win for M-A, allowing two runs on three hits through three innings of work.
El Camino 11, Balboa 1
The Colts (2-2) scored crooked numbers in four of the five innings to win the shortened home game over Balboa-SF (0-4). Alejandro Topete had a single with three RBIs for EC, senior Michael McCauley had two hits with two RBIs, and Carlos Alcala added two hits with one RBI. Starting pitcher Joshua Barrios earned the abbreviated complete-game victory, allowing one run on one hit and three walks while striking out eight.
Aragon 4, Crystal 3
The Dons (2-2) rallied for a run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the walk-off win at home over Crystal (0-1-1). The Gryphons had rallied back from a 3-2 deficit to tie it with one run in the sixth and another in the seventh.
Aragon reliever Sean Tam is credited with the win, after allowing one run on three hits through one inning of relief. Junior starting pitcher Ethan Nagao allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks, while striking out 10. Junior Alex Gosselin paced the Dons with two hits, while junior Nick Mazzola had two RBIs. Hiro Wong paced Crystal with two hits and two RBIs.
Urban 19, Summit Shasta 3
Aaron Mendoza tallied the only hits for Summit Shasta, as Urban-SF (1-1) rolled to a five-inning mercy-rule win over the Black Bears (0-2) in Golden Gate Park. Aaron Knupp led Urban with three hits, including a double, and four RBIs. LeBryan Marcial drove in two runs for Shasta.

Burlingame (3-1) fell 6-4 in non-league play to Santa Teresa-San Jose (2-1) at Washington Park.

Woodside 13, Sacred Heart Cathedral 0
Woodside outfielder Mo Overbey added to her red-hot start, as the senior went 3 for 4 with two doubles and four RBIs in the Wildcats’ shutout win against Sacred Heart Cathedral at Westmoor High School. Overbey has now hit safely in all four games for the Wildcats (4-0), and is slashing .615/.625/1.000 through 13 at-bats.
Pitchers Hannah Walker and Marisa Calderon combined on a one-hit shutout, with freshman Lynn Wheeler singling for SHC (0-1) against the starter Walker in the early innings. Walker fired three innings to improve her record to 4-0.
El Camino 28, Jefferson 7
The Lady Colts (1-0 PAL Lake, 2-0 overall) have now scored 51 runs through their first two games, after totaling 28 runs on 11 hits in their PAL Lake Division opener at home against Jefferson (0-2, 0-3). Cassandra Sandoval and Alexa Romo led the hit parade with two hits and three RBIs apiece for El Camino, while Taty Portobanco added a single and three RBIs. The Colts took advantage of 17 walks, three hit batsmen and nine fielding errors by the Grizzlies.
Half Moon Bay 9, Santa Cruz 7
Trailing 5-0 in the late innings, Half Moon Bay (3-1) rallied for five runs in the fifth to tie it, then stormed ahead with a four-run sixth to claim the non-conference home win. Sophomore reliever Zoey Schwartz earned the win, her first of the year, and her second career win in two appearances against Santa Cruz (1-3). Senior Taelor Johnson had a single and an RBI, and has now hit safely in three straight games for the Cougars.
San Mateo 12, Los Altos 2
The Bearcats (3-0) racked up 19 hits to win their third straight in non-league home action against Los Altos (0-3). Junior Demi Alfonso recorded a career-high four hits, sophomore Rachel Warner went 3 for 4 with two doubles and four RBIs, and Celia Hernandez and Jana Davies added three hits apiece. Hernandez earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs (none earned) on one hit. Her record improves to 2-0.
Mercy 8, Argonaut 4
Mercy 17, Galt 7
The Bears (3-1) opened play in the Jackson Lions Club Dandelion Days Softball Classic in Jackson with a pair of wins. Freshman slugger Fefe Alusa got Mercy-Burlingame rolling against hometown Argonaut-Jackson, going 3 for 3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs.
Freshman Olivia Eastburn added three hits with an RBI for the Bears, and earned her first varsity win in the circle, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks, while striking out six. Mercy sophomore Melina Antonio added three hits.
St. Ignatius 5, Burlingame 4
The Panthers led 4-2 in the seventh, but sophomore Olivia Dollard barreled a three-run home run in the bottom of the frame to deliver the walk-off win for St. Ignatius (3-2) at Fairmont Field.
Dollard finished the day with a triple, a homer and four RBIs, and got the compete-game victory in the circle while allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits. Junior Maddy Koo totaled three hits to pace Burlingame (1-1), and is now 5 for 7 to start the season.
Leigh 6, Menlo-Atherton 1
Leigh-San Jose (3-1) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the first and led the rest of the way in a non-league home game against Menlo-Atherton (1-1). The Bears totaled five hits, including a 1-for-3 day from sophomore Eliana Clapp, who drove in M-A’s only run in the second. Senior Sophia Hooper totaled two hits and two RBIs for the Longhorns.
