Aragon boys’ basketball delivered a big finish in front of its home crowd Friday night, and with it vanquished a longstanding curse against a crosstown rival.

The Gentleman Dons (2-0 PAL Ocean, 10-3 overall) rallied for a 48-41 victory, using a 21-8 fourth-quarter run to overtake Hillsdale (1-1, 4-10). The Fighting Knights took a 33-27 lead into the final period, but Aragon senior Armando Cajbon scored 10 points over the final eight minutes to lead the comeback.
The win snaps Hillsdale’s 12-game winning streak in head-to-head play with Aragon dating back to 2017-18.
Cajbon finished with a game-high 18 points, while senior point guard Kaleb Brodeth added 12. Hillsdale senior Sebastian Avina hit four 3-pointers and shared the game-high with 18 points, while senior Callum North added 10.
The boys’ comeback thriller seemed like a relatively short game compared to the girls’ Friday night showdown at Hillsdale, as the Lady Knights (2-0 PAL Bay, 10-2 overall) were up for doubling down against Aragon. In the end, senior Daniella Sierra’s double-double led Hillsdale to a 56-53 win in double overtime.
Sierra finished with 24 points and 14 rebounds to help the Knights avert disaster. Hillsdale led 32-21 after three regulation periods, but Aragon went on a 18-7 fourth-quarter run to force overtime. The two teams tied 6-all in the first OT period, before Hillsdale finished on an 11-8 run in the second.
Aragon senior Daisy Pantoja Beltran shared the game-high with 24 points, while senior Jayda Parangan added 13.
