Freshman pitcher Reid Plamondon turned in the finest outing of his varsity career, firing a one-hitter in his first varsity start to lead the Knights (6-7) to a 2-1 non-league win Wednesday at home over Sacred Heart Prep. It marks their first two-game series sweep over rival Sacred Heart Prep (5-10) since 2012. Menlo won Tuesday’s series opener 1-0 in extra innings backed by junior Jackson Flanagan’s nine-inning complete game.

Plamondon surrendered one unearned run in the first inning, then posted six scoreless frames. The right-hander faced four over the minimum, allowing one hit and one walk, while striking out eight. His record improves to 2-1 with a 3.89 ERA. His longest previous outing was three innings, which he did twice in back-to-back appearances against Los Gatos and Design Tech to start the season.
