Sorina Larsen, Mercy-Burlingame softball. In the first start of her varsity career, the freshman right-hander dazzled by throwing a six-inning no-hitter in the Crusaders’ 12-0 mercy-rule win over Mercy-SF. In one previous appearance this season, Larsen struggled in relief and ultimately simplified her repertoire going into last Thursday’s start. She rode a three-pitch arsenal, featuring a wicked drop ball, to a 14-strikeout performance. The Crusaders totaled four home runs in support of the freshman, led by junior Ryan Galea who went 3 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs.
Ethan Mayoss, Carlmont boys’ volleyball. The junior hitter continues to rack up impressive kill totals. He opened the week with a 14-kill effort in a 25-16, 25-19, 25-12 sweep of South City. He came back Friday with 15 kills in a five-set loss to Sacred Heart Prep.
Tayler Wise, Carlmont softball. The Scots finally opened their 2019 season with back-to-back games last week, with Wise right in the middle of all the action. Erica Fischer, Menlo-Atherton girls’ basketball. Fischer scored 10 of her points in the fourth quarter, while knocking down a team-high four 3-pointers.
Levi Stubbles, El Camino baseball. Facing his former squad and El Camino archrival South City, Stubbles was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored as the Colts rolled to a 9-3 win. Scott Leighton, Hillsdale baseball. The junior hurler earned his second straight win to start the year, shutting down crosstown rival Aragon. Leighton led the Fighting Knights to a 4-1 win, turning in a complete-game two-hitter while striking out seven. The only blemish on his day was surrendering an unearned run in the sixth after Hillsdale had already built a 4-0 lead. Leighton helped is own cause with a single and an RBI, while Jeremy Chong and Drew Aspillera also drove in runs for Hillsdale.
Holly Fletcher, Aragon softball. The senior right-hander has yet to concede a run through two starts this season and, more impressive, has only allowed one hit through 11 innings of work. Her complete-game shutout of Mountain View last Thursday saw her surrender that one hit, but not much else, as she faced three batters over the minimum while walking none, hitting two batters and striking out 11.
