San Mateo National 2, San Carlos 0
Caleb Fuata fired 5 2/3 scoreless innings and reliever Michael Bahamondes closed it out as San Mateo National recorded a three-hit shutout in its District 52 Little League All-Stars 12s opener against San Carlos at Middlefield Ballpark.
Fuata threw 87 pitches, 58 for strikes, in holding San Carlos to three hits and one walk, while striking out eight. San Carlos starting pitcher LJ Lee took the tough-luck complete-game loss, allowing two urns on seven hits and one hit batsman, while striking out eight, through five innings of work.
As National’s No. 2 hitter, Fuata also set the table for the game’s only run-scoring rally with a one-out double to left in the fourth. Christopher Vasquez then connected for a two-run home run to center field. Vasquez finished 2 for 2 with two RBIs, and Bahamondes added two hits. Griffin Lucia, Bentley Hird and Tyler Lin each tallied hits for San Carlos.
National advances through the winners’ bracket, and earns a showdown with crosstown rival San Mateo American, Thursday, at 6:30 p.m.
San Mateo American 13, Menlo-Atherton 0
JT Pettigrew launched a grand slam home run in the second, and Colton Baker followed with a two-run homer later in the inning as San Mateo American run-ruled its way to a four-inning victory over Menlo-Atherton at Middlefield Ballpark.
American rallied for seven runs in the second. Brayden Sole got the line moving with a leadoff single, Mazin Khoury got hit by a pitch, and Carter Wells singled to center to load the bases. Elliot Klemp got his team on the board with an RBI single. Then Pettigrew produced the big bop with a grand slam to left. Alexander Bayer reignited the rally with a two-out double to center, setting the table for Baker’s blast to center.
American rallied for six more runs in the third, with a two-run double from Wells, an RBI single by Bobby Zapala, an RBI single by Pettigrew, and an RBI single by Baker.

Three American arms combined on a three-hit shutout, with the starter Khoury earning the win. Khoury needed just 22 pitches to navigate two innings, allowing one hit, while striking out two. Bayer followed with one shutout inning, and Wells pitched a scoreless fourth to end it.

Palo Alto 3, Belmont-Redwood Shores 2
Palo Alto never trailed, but won a back-and-forth thriller on a walk-off hit from Karam Dhillon in the bottom of the sixth against Belmont-Redwood Shores at Middlefield Ballpark.
With Palo Alto starting pitcher Alonso Ontiveros Herrera and BRS starter Yuma Takeuchi locked in a scoreless pitchers’ duel through three, Paly got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Ontiveros Herrera scored on a wild pitch. BRS tied it in the fifth on Diego Soto’s RBI double, but Paly retook the lead in the bottom of the inning when Zion Lee led off with a single, stole second and third, then scored on an RBI knock by Ian Nilsen. In the top of the sixth, BRS tied it again when William Lucas raced home on a passed ball.
That set the stage for the dramatic finish. Austin Carlstrom set the table with a one-out double to left. Two pitches later, Dhillon singled to left to bring home Carlstrom with the game-winner.
Paly reliever Philip Sheng earned the win with two-thirds innings of work. Ontiveros Herrera worked five innings, allowing one run (none earned) on two hits and one hit batter while striking out 10. Yuta Muraoka worked one-third of an inning in the sixth. Takeuchi worked 5 2/3 innings for BRS. Reliever Grant Grites pitches to the last two batters in the sixth.
In other action: Alpine won 7-1 over Hillsborough. Alpine advances to play Palo Alto, Thursday, at 4 p.m. Palo Alto advances to the winners’ bracket quarterfinals to face Alpine, Thursday, at 4 p.m.
