San Mateo American 5, Palo Alto 4
Each team managed just two hits on the day, but American managed to sneak away with an extra-inning win when Max Johnson scored the go-ahead from third on an error in the top of the seventh inning against Palo Alto at Trinta Park.
American never trailed, but saw an early 4-0 lead disappear when Palo Alto scored three in the third and tied it in the sixth when Beau Jefferson reached on an error with two outs, allowing Avi Airan to score from third to make it 4-all. In the seventh, Johnson drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a groundout by Isaac Parsons, then scored on an error after Jojo Piazza lined out on the infield.
Cameron Mayer earned the win in relief for American, firing two hitless innings while allowing one run (none earned). Piazza worked a perfect seventh to record the save. Johnson worked four innings as the starting pitcher, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and four walks, while striking out eight.
Arjun Vernal had a double and an RBI for Palo Alto, while the team pitched Dylan Wu and Mateo Benford Garcia.
American advances through the winners’ bracket to take on Redwood City, Wednesday, at 5 p.m.
Redwood City 6, Pacifica 5
Redwood City pitchers Matthew Larsen and Matthew Brennan hunkered down through the last two innings to hold off two late rallied by Pacifica at Trinta Field. After jumping out to an early 6-0 lead, Pacifica scored three runs in the fifth and twice more in the sixth, but Brennan closed it out with a grounder to second baseman Patrick Soares to end it.
Brennan worked one inning, allowing two runs on one hit and one walk. Larsen earned the win, taking a shutout into the fifth before finishing the day with five innings pitched, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out five.
Soares paced the RWC offense, going 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Brennan added two hits.
RWC advanced through the winners’ bracket to take on San Mateo American, Wednesday, at 5 p.m.

Alpine 12, Foster City 0
Keegan Wolf and Wilson Shank combined on a five-inning no-hitter as Alpine claimed the mercy-rule win over Foster City at Trinta Park. Through two games in the District 52 10s tournament, Alpine has yet to surrender a run, opening play Saturday with a 10-0 win over Belmont-Redwood Shores.
Wolf worked 3 2/3 innings to earn the win, walking three and striking out two, while throwing 51 pitches, 28 for strikes. Shank then emerged to set down all four batters he faced, striking out two, while ending the no-no with a fly ball to center field. Foster City used four pitchers: starter Xander Chen, and relievers Gabriel Chavez, Caleb Pender and Easton Szerenyi.
Shank went 0 for 1 with a walk for Alpine, but totaled a game-high three RBIs. Charlie Katz and Lolo McNeil each added an RBI.
With the win, Alpine advances to the winners’ bracket quarterfinals to face Hillsborough, Wednesday, at 5:30 p.m. Foster City plays an elimination game Tuesday, at 5:30 p.m., against Menlo-Atherton.
Hillsborough 7, San Carlos 4
Hillsborough reliever Charlie Willard entered amid a sixth-inning jam and stared down a bases-loaded, two-out situation and induced a game-ending groundout to second baseman Cole Glaser to notch a well-earned save against San Carlos at Trinta Park.
Hillsborough led 7-2 in the fifth, when San Carlos scored twice — Braden Turner swiped home on a double steal, and Will Warner doubled in Javin Dharmadhikari. Willard pitched out of the jam, though, and finished the day with two innings of work. Starting pitcher Spencer Simon and reliever Leo Matteucci also pitched for Hillsborough.
Willand and Declan Conti each had two hits with a double and two RBIs, while Matteucci and James Farris each added a hit and an RBI for Hillsborough. Warner paced San Carlos with two hits, including a double and two RBIs, while Graham May also had two hits.
Hillsborough now advances to the winners’ bracket quarterfinals to take on Alpine, Wednesday, at 5:30 p.m. San Carlos moves to the elimination bracket to take on Belmont-Redwood Shores, Tuesday, at 5 p.m.
