Two days, two track state championships for College of San Mateo.
Aiydan Bague became CSM’s first men’s triple jump champion Friday, winning the California Community College Athletic Association track and field championship event at College Heights Stadium with a leap of 49 feet, 2 1/4 inches, extending his own state season lead in the event by more than a foot and a half. Bague was in second place going into the final three jumps and needed to top 49 feet on his sixth and final effort to beat Brandyn Wetherspoon of Mt. San Antonio College, who settled for silver at 48-10 1/4.
Jane Taufa
CSM hosted the state meet for the fourth time. It continued to pay off on Saturday. CSM’s Jane Taufa put the shot 45 feet, 10 3/4 inches to extend her own state season lead and win the women’s state crown by more than three feet. The sophomore had four puts beyond her incoming state season lead of 43-9 3/4.
The Modesto Junior College women and the Riverside City College men claimed the team championships.
