While the high school Central Coast Sections are coming to the end of the playoff cycle, the California Community College playoffs are just getting started, with plenty of action coming this week in men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball.
Meanwhile, the CSM football team, the defending state champion, has a bye until next Saturday.
Both the Cañada and Skyline men’s soccer teams made the 22-team Northern California regional bracket. Skyline (11-4-5) drew the No. 13 seed and will host No. 20 Chabot-Hayward (7-9-4) in a first-round Wednesday at 1 p.m.
The Trojans advanced to the semifinals of the Nor Cal regional as the No. 2 seed in 2024.
Skyline finished fourth in the Coast North Conference with a record of 7-3-3. Freshman Ethan Jimenez Flamenco and sophomore Beto Fernandez each scored seven goals this season to lead the Trojans, who averaged just under 2 goals per game in 2025.
Cañada (11-2-6) finished second in the Coast North Conference with a record of 8-1-4, finishing behind Hartnell. The Colts, who made it to the state semifinals in 2024, earned the No. 5 seed and a first-round bye until Saturday’s second round. They will face the winner of No. 12 Feather River (17-4-0) and No. 21 Foothill (9-12-1).
Dylan Antunovich had a big year for the Colts, leading the team with 12 goals and three assists for 27 points, one of eight Cañada players to post double-digit points this season as the Colts averaged 3 goals scored per game in 2025.
The Cañada women (14-2-4) also got a top-5 seed and a first-round bye, as well, as the Lady Colts ran roughshod through the Coast South Conference, winning the title with an undefeated record of 9-0-2.
They will host the winner of No. 13 Santa Rosa (9-7-3) and No. 20 Foothill (9-9-2) in a second-round game Saturday.
In addition to goalkeeper Elisabeth Bray posting nine shutouts while allowing just eight goals on the season, it was a pair of defenders who led the Colts’ offense. Ryann Leyte-Vidal, a sophomore defender, scored a team-high 13 goals and added five assists. Maeve Lynch, another sophomore defender, was second on the team with eight goals.

CSM football looks to repeat
The College of San Mateo football, which won a share of its fourth straight Bay 6 Conference title after beating Laney and San Francisco losing to Diablo Valley on the final day of the regular season, earned the No. 1 seed in the Northern California regional playoffs, that begin this weekend with a first-round game.
The Bulldogs, however, will have a chance to do some scouting as they earned a bye to the semifinals next week. They’ll host the winner between No. 4 San Francisco (7-3) and No. 5 Fresno (6-4), who face off at noon Saturday in San Francisco.
CSM split with those teams during the regular season. The Bulldogs beat Fresno 23-14 in Week 5 Sept. 27 before seeing a 17-game winning streak snapped with a 13-6 loss to San Francisco in Week 9 Oct. 25.
