FRIDAY
Boys’ Division III
So Cal’s San Gabriel Academy won a 52-51 thriller against the King’s Academy-Sunnyvale.
King’s mounted a late comeback effort the would have amounted to the finish of the century had they pulled it off. The Knights trailed by as much as 48-36 in the fourth quarter, and were down 10 with a minute to play. But San Gabriel Academy (21-13) committed five turnovers in the final minute, and King’s drilled a corner 3 with 19 seconds to go to close it to 50-49.
SGA sophomore Xavier Wang answered with two free throws to go back up by 3. King’s (27-5) tried for a 3-pointer at the other end, and seemed to draw a foul from beyond the arc, but the referee’s whistle was for an offensive foul on a moving screen by sophomore Adrian Barnett. The Knights stole the ensuing inbound pass and scored a layup as time expired to end it.
