The 3-ball has been treating the Aragon Dons well.
Playing in the Fremont-Sunnyvale Holiday Tournament for the fourth straight year, the Dons (6-3) stormed are knocking on the door for a tournament title the first time after Friday night’s 64-48 win over Cupertino (2-5). Aragon wraps up the round-robin tournament Saturday, and can bring home the title with a win over Independence-San Jose.
Senior guard Armando Cajbon led the way Friday with a game-high 26 points, giving him a 22.5 average through Aragon’s two wins in the tourney.
“It’s the ball movement and quite honestly, they’ve just been shooting the lights out ... collectively,” Aragon head coach Hosea Patton said.
Aragon has knocked down 24 3-pointers in the tournament, including 11 in Friday’s victory, five of them from Cajbon. The senior transfer from Serra drained six 3s in Thursday’s 57-44 win over host Fremont (4-4) while totaling 19 points.
“He’s definitely upped his play with hard work and commitment over the offseason, and it’s paying off,” Patton said.
Cajbon is the third Serra transfer to suit of for the Dons in recent memory, including senior point guard Kaleb Brodeth, who did not play basketball at Serra last season to focus exclusively on golf. The transfer pipeline started with 2024 Aragon grad Branden Antiporda, who joined the Dons as a senior.

Brodeth totaled six points Friday, but was Aragon’s main assist maker.
“He’s been an early Christmas gift, I must say,” Patton said.
Cajbon scored 12 of his points in the first quarter Friday, with the Dons getting off to a fast start.
“It looked like his natural feel for the game, but for some reason in the flow of our transition and our half-court offense, our floor leader Kaleb was finding him,” Patton said.
Junior guard Sebastian Diaz-Jones added 13 points for the Dons, who have now won three straight.
Aragon is now set to take on Independence (3-4) at Fremont-Sunnyvale Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
“We match up pretty well,” Patton said. “They’re one of those South Bay team’s that’s really aggressive, tough-nosed, and I’m curious to see how my kids are going to step up to the challenge.”
