SANTA CLARA — Valley Christian finished in fifth place in the six-team West Catholic Athletic League this season.
No matter.
No. 2-seed Aragon had a tough go of it against the Warriors (12-15), who made good on their top seed to roll to a 64-27 victory in the Central Coast Section Division II girls’ basketball finals Saturday at Mission College.
Valley Christian opened on an 11-2 run, and was already up 6-0 when Aragon (14-12) scrapped for its first points with senior Jayda Parangan pulling down two offensive rebounds, before converting on the second. But the sharp shooting of freshman Rythm Aragones, the post presence of and the crisp passing of senior Kenedi Nomura paced Valley Christian to the wire-to-wire win.
Nomura netted seven points in the first quarter, as the Warriors built a 23-7 lead heading into the second. Nomura totaled four assists in the quarter. Aragones went on to hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the third quarter.
The CCS finals appearance was the sixth all-time for Aragon, including a pair of Division II championships in 2019 and ’22.
The CCS crown, the Warriors’ first since 2017-18, in the sixth all-time for Valley Christian.
