Joey Loperfido hit a tiebreaking home run in the 11th inning and the Houston Astros beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-7 on Tuesday.
Loperfido’s first home run of the season came off former Toronto teammate Braydon Fisher (3-3).
With automatic runner Jose Altuve at second base to begin the 11th, the Blue Jays intentionally walked Yordan Alvarez. Fisher struck out Christian Walker and Isaac Paredes before Loperfido connected.
Yainer Diaz, Cam Smith and Taylor Trammell hit consecutive home runs for Houston in the fourth. All three homers came off Toronto starter Shane Bieber.
Logan VanWey (1-0) gave up Kazuma Okamoto’s RBI single in the ninth and worked two innings for his first career win.
MARINERS 3, PIRATES 2
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Cole Young hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning in his first major league game in his hometown to lift Seattle to a victory over Pittsburgh.
The 22-year-old second baseman’s drive into the right-field bleachers kept the Mariners in first place in the AL West with a 41-39 record. Young grew up in Pittsburgh’s northern suburbs and starred at North Allegheny High School.
The Mariners’ other run came in the fourth inning when Cal Raleigh led off with a solo shot off Mitch Keller (5-5). That ended a streak of 64 plate appearances since Raleigh’s last homer on April 27.
Young’s home run enabled George Kirby (6-7) to end a five-game losing streak and win for the first time in eight starts. Kirby allowed two runs (one earned) in six innings, allowing eight hits, striking out five and walking two.
Andrés Muñoz pitched a perfect ninth for his 14th save.
The Pirates took a 2-0 lead on an RBI single by Marcell Ozuna in the second inning and a throwing error by third baseman J.P. Crawford in the third.
YANKEES 4, TIGERS 3
DETROIT (AP) — Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered, drove in two runs and scored twice and New York beat Detroit.
Chisholm scored on Jose Caballero’s RBI groundout in the fourth inning before hitting a two-run homer in the sixth as New York ended a three-game losing streak and stopped Detroit’s four-game winning streak.
Carlos Rodón (4-2) picked up the win, allowing three runs and six hits with two walks in 5 1/3 innings. Three relievers finished, with David Bednar getting the final four outs for his 15th save.
Casey Mize (2-5) gave up four runs and eight hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six while giving the Tigers their 27th straight game in which the starting pitcher allowed four or fewer runs.
MARLINS 6, RANGERS 4
MIAMI (AP) — Sandy Alcantara set the franchise career record for strikeouts and won his fifth consecutive start in June, leading Miami to a victory over Texas.
Alcantara (8-4), who allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings, struck out Kyle Higashioka in the seventh inning to surpass Ricky Nolasco for the most strikeouts in club history with 1,002.
Alcantara allowed five hits through the first 3 2/3 innings then retired 11 straight. After allowing eight runs and 10 hits in a loss at Toronto on May 26, Alcantara has completed at least seven innings in three of his five starts in June.
Heriberto Hernández homered and doubled, while Joe Mack and Owen Caissie also went deep for the Marlins, who built a 6-1 lead before the Rangers mounted a comeback attempt.
Brandon Nimmo hit a leadoff homer in the eighth and down to their last out in the ninth, the Rangers chipped away against Marlins closer Pete Fairbanks. Joc Pederson hit a solo homer and Wyatt Langford was hit by a pitch. Nimmo cut the margin with an RBI triple. Fairbanks got the last out when Josh Jung hit a drive that was caught at the warning track by center fielder Jakob Marsee.
PHILLIES 14, NATIONALS 9
WASHINGTON (AP) — Bryson Stott’s three-run homer highlighted Philadelphia’s eight-run outburst in the ninth inning and the Phillies rallied to beat Washington.
Trailing 8-6 heading into the top of the ninth, Brandon Marsh hit a tying two run homer off Brad Lord (5-1) with two outs. After Bryce Harper and pinch-hitter Derek Hill singled, Stott hit a towering 403-foot homer to right. Edmundo Sosa added a two-run double and Trea Turner had an RBI single to complete the comeback.
Washington’s Luis Garcia Jr. homered in the bottom half for the final margin.
Orion Kerkering (4-0) worked one inning and allowed three runs, yet earned the victory.
BREWERS 2, REDS 0
CINCINNATI (AP) — Brandon Sproat pitched one-hit ball for six shutout innings and had a career-high 10 strikeouts, Hank Bauers and Andrew Vaughn drove in runs and Milwaukee beat Cincinnati.
Milwaukee (48-29) won a series at Great American Ball Park for the ninth straight time and has won 12 of the last 13.
The Brewers spoiled the return of Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz, who went 0 for 3 and struck out twice in his first game since May 31 after landing on the injured list with a strained hamstring for the first time in his career.
WHITE SOX 2, GUARDIANS 1
CHICAGO (AP) — Miguel Vargas hit a go-ahead home run in the sixth inning, Sean Burke struck out six in 6 1/3 innings, and Chicago claimed sole possession of first place in the AL Central with a win over Cleveland.
Burke (5-4) allowed one run on six hits and one walk to outduel Guardians starter Parker Messick. Sean Newcomb threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief for his second save.
The White Sox are 22-4 in their last 26 home games, 11-1 against the AL Central at home and have won nine straight home series after beating the Guardians 6-5 on Monday. Their 16 one-run wins are the most in the majors.
Messick (7-4) struck out a career-high 10 in 7 2/3 innings, walking one and allowing two runs on only three hits.
ROYALS 12, RAYS 5
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay native Jac Caglianone continued his hot June by homering twice and driving in three runs in Kansas City's victory over the reeling Rays.
Luinder Avila (3-3) allowed three hits and a run over five innings for Kansas City. He also struck out six batters before giving way to four Royals relief pitchers.
Tampa Bay’s Shane McClanahan (6-5) gave up six runs over six innings, though four were unearned.
Caglianone hit a 443-foot solo home run in the first inning and a 416-foot two-run blast in the fifth for this third multihomer game this month. His nine homers in June are tied with the Athletics’ Nick Kurtz for the most in the American League.

NEW YORK (AP) — Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a three-run homer, Dansby Swanson also went deep and drove in four and Chicago beat New York despite an injury to starting pitcher Edward Cabrera.
The right-hander hurt his left leg stretching to catch a throw at first base for the final out of the fifth inning. In obvious pain, he was carted off the field with a left hamstring/adductor strain.
New York slugger Juan Soto exited in the fifth with tightness on the left side of his back. Francisco Alvarez homered and knocked in three runs for the last-place Mets. Bo Bichette added a two-run shot in a three-run ninth.
DIAMONDBACKS 4, CARDINALS 3
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Nolan Arenado and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had run-scoring hits and Arizona’s eventual winning run scored on a passed ball — all in the ninth inning — as the Diamondbacks beat St. Louis.
All the runs in the game were scored in the ninth inning.
The Diamondbacks managed just three hits in the first eight innings. In the ninth, Gabriel Moreno singled and Pavin Smith walked before Arenado hit an RBI double to left-center field. Gurriel followed with a two-run single to center for a 3-0 lead before Jorge Barrosa scored on a passed ball by Cardinals catcher Jimmy Crooks.
Arizona starter pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez allowed just three hits through 6 2/3 innings. He struck out five and walked three. Kevin Ginkel (3-2) pitched the eighth, striking out one and earned the win. Brandyn Garcia earned his first save of the season.
The Cardinals mounted a comeback in the bottom half of the ninth.
Lars Nootbaar doubled to start the inning. José Fermín singled and Alec Burleson hit an RBI double down the first base line. Blaze Jordan hit a sacrifice fly that scored Fermín, and Crooks hit an RBI single to right field to cut the deficit to a run. But, JJ Wetherholt struck out swinging to end the game.
DODGERS 12, TWINS 3
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Freddie Freeman and Andy Pages each had three of the Dodgers’ season high-tying 17 hits, Justin Wrobleski worked seven strong innings, and Los Angeles beat Minnesota.
Mookie Betts, Alex Freeland, Alex Call and Chuckie Robinson had two hits apiece for the Dodgers.
Wrobleski (9-2) allowed five hits and two earned runs. After three consecutive Minnesota hits in the third inning, the left-hander retired 14 of the final 16 hitters he faced, allowing a hit and walk.
It’s the third solid June outing for Wrobleski, who pitched six shutout innings in two of his three previous starts this month, including last Tuesday against Tampa Bay.
Called up from Triple-A St. Paul for his Twins debut, Voth (0-1) allowed 11 hits and five earned runs in four innings.
Victor Caratini and Brooks Lee homered for Minnesota, which is 9-17 in interleague play.
RED SOX 5, ROCKIES 2
DENVER (AP) — Wilyer Abreu and Nate Eaton drove in two runs each to back an 11-strikeout performance from Sonny Gray and Boston beat Colorado.
Gray (9-1) allowed a run on six hits with three walks in seven innings. The right-hander’s 11 strikeouts were a season high and he matched his season high with 93 pitches — 65 for strikes.
Justin Slaten pitched a scoreless eighth, and Garrett Whitlock gave up Ezequiel Tovar’s solo homer in the ninth to close it out.
Eaton, who went 3 for 4, walked to lead off the game against rookie left-hander Sean Sullivan (0-2) making his third start. Eaton stole second base and scored on Abreu’s triple.
Eaton had a two-out RBI single for a 2-0 lead in the second inning, and Abreu homered for the 10th time to make it 3-1 in the fifth.
Eaton had an RBI double off Zach Agnos before scoring on Ceddanne Rafaela’s single for a 5-1 advantage in the sixth.
Willi Castro hit his sixth home run — a one-out 435-foot shot to the upper deck in right field in the second — for Colorado’s first run.
ANGELS 5, ORIOLES
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Rookie right-hander Ryan Johnson gave up one hit over six scoreless innings, Nolan Schanuel hit an early two-run home run and Los Angeles beat Baltimore.
In his third career start, Johnson (1-2) carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Jeremiah Jackson hit one-out a line drive single to center field. Johnson allowed one walk with career highs of eight strikeouts and six innings, while throwing 90 pitches.
Right-hander Shane Baz (4-8) gave up five runs on eight hits over five innings with one walk and five strikeouts for the Orioles, who had their three-game winning streak halted.
GIANTS 3, ATHLETICS 1
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Robbie Ray held the Athletics to an unearned run and two hits in eight innings to lead San Francisco Giants to a victory.
Ray (6-6) struck out six and walked four. In his previous outing, the left-hander allowed two hits in 6 1/3 shutout innings in a 7-2 win at Atlanta last Wednesday.
Caleb Kilian worked a scoreless ninth in this one for his fifth save. He struck out Henry Bolte with two runners on to end the game.
Jung Hoo Lee tagged Aaron Civale (5-4) for a solo homer in the second inning for the game’s first run. It was Lee’s fifth HR of the season.
PADRES 7, BRAVES 6, 10 INNINGS
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Manny Machado hit an RBI single in the 10th inning to lead San Diego to a walk-off win over Atlanta.
With Jackson Merrill at second, Machado sent a pitch from Raisel Iglesias (0-2) into center field to give the Padres their sixth walk-off victory of the season.
Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to tie it for the Padres, who rallied after being down 4-0 in the second.
The Padres scored five runs in their half of the second on RBI singles by Rodolfo Durán, Sung-Mun Song and Tatis, and a two-run single by Samad Taylor.
Mason Miller (2-1) pitched the final two innings of the game, striking out three for San Diego. It is their sixth walk-off win of the year.
