Crystal Springs ended its tournament with a bit of controversy in a 70-63 loss to Rincon Valley Christian. Trailing 61-60, Crystal Springs called a timeout. During the timeout, the score was changed to show a five-point Rincon Valley lead. Since Crystal Springs did not have a scorekeeper working the game, the team had to defer to the official book. After the game, Crystal Springs coach Ren Marquette figured out that a basket that should have been awarded to a one of his players was inadvertently added to the Rincon Valley score.
Crystal Springs still had a chance, but Rincon Valley's foul shooting down the stretch kept Crystal Springs at bay.
Crystal Springs (4-3 overall) opened the tournament on Thursday with a 54-50 loss to Victory Christian Academy. On Friday, Crystal Springs picked up its only win of the tournament, beating Potter Valley 62-34.
Forward Sam Taylor had an outstanding tournament, leading Crystal Springs in scoring with an average of 22 points per game. David Steinhardt had 15 in the win over Potter Valley and 12 in the loss to Rincon. Vandy Shanholt had 13 and 16.<
