Swimming
The Serra 200 free relay team, and Burlingame’s Joe Plume and Victoria Pratt swam All-American times at the Central Coast Section swimming championships Saturday at Stanford University.
Pratt had the best individual result, finishing second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.59, an automatic All-American time. She eclipsed her preliminary time of 1:05.15.
Her Burlingame teammate, Joe Plume, was third in the 200 free, recording a time of 1:41.17, bettering his qualifying time of 1:42.27.
Plume also finished sixth in the 100 backstroke in a time of 54.15.
Serra relay teams had good days. The 200 free relay team of Robert Griffin, Aaron Chhokar, Nick Poggetti and David Hermansen finished second with a time of 1:27.03, earning them All-American honors. They were a half-second behind first-place finisher Monta Vista.
The Padres’ 200 medley relay team was third, with Chris Yarranton replacing Poggetti. The foursome finished with a time of 1:38.70, which gives them All-American consideration.
The 50 free final was the best race of the day for local girls. Three of the top eight finishers hailed from the county. Olivia Plume had the best finish, fourth, with a mark of 24.61. Aragon’s Emily Chen was right behind with a time of 24.62. South City’s Daphne Yeung was seventh in a time of 24.79.
That trio also made the consolation finals in other races. Plume was 11th in the 100 fly, Chen was 12th in the 100 free and Yeung was ninth in the 100 free.
In the boys’ 50 free, Carlmont’s Andrew Whiteley finished first in the consolation final, which was ninth overall, with a time of 21.82. Had he qualified for the championship final, that time would have been good for seventh place.
