I was struck by a sentence in this weekend’s article regarding Mexican gangs influence in their upcoming elections. Referring to the drug cartels, the line stated: “They have loyal voters who they have won over through the distribution of food packages, cash, medicine and infrastructure projects.”

Your correct. Helping the poor is one thing, but buying their votes is another. What ever became of work fare?

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Donnelly. Your observation is why I continue to tell folks from other cities and states to send their homeless to the major cities in California.
