I am writing about Assembly Bill 495 (Family Preparedness Plan). The bill says it aims to support immigrant families by expanding the definition of eligible caretakers, creating a pathway for temporary joint guardians, and prohibiting schools and child care facilities from asking for identification of these joint guardians.
AB 495 makes sweeping changes by expanding who can fill out a “Caretakers Authorization Affidavit,” a legal form that gives adults authority to make decisions about where children attend school and health care services they receive.
Most disturbingly, the affidavit explicitly states three times that “a parent’s signature or court seal is not required”Kristen Power, A representative of the Alliance for Children rights stated AB 495 ensures that schools and medical providers accept the form, without talking to the parents. This means a person, say a pedophile uncle, family friend or a mentor like a gymnastics doctor (Larry Nassar who got 60 years in prison for sexual assault of 265 young girls), ex spouses, etc. can download the form, fill it out and take a child out of school.
The bill says that school or day care officials cannot even ask for the person identification. AB 495 backers say parents aren’t excluded, but the bill, the California School Boards Association, and legal experts say otherwise.
Please do your homework parents, on YouTube look up “Kids not for sale.” This bill has passed the Assembly and is on Gov. Newson’s desk. Call 916-445-2841 press 3 then press 6 to leave a message. For your child’s sake.
