If readers want to “check under the hood,” with regard to the state’s budget, I recommend viewing the video of the Legislative Analyst’s Office press availability, especially the Q&A.
Spoiler alert, we are on shaky ground. Our expenses are outpacing revenues and much of that is dependent on the stock market, especially the tech sector. Unemployment is rising and most hiring is tied to government. While they nearly balanced the budget for next year, they had to dip into reserves and use some accounting tricks to do so. The following two years get much worse, with large deficits projected.
Let’s hope for a turnaround in our state’s economy and a booming stock market. We have so much going for us, but we need to rein in spending.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Donnelly. Californians are well aware of the voodoo accounting by California so-called leaders. Depending upon your point of view, fortunately or unfortunately, those with the means can leave California and save their tax dollars for a better governed state. Perhaps we can establish a California version of DOGE.
Voting for the same democrat lunatics and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. Spending more than revenue streams, protecting illegal immigrant murderers and sexual abusers, throwing girls and women under the bus for the sick transgender movement and stealing the innocence of children.

You'd think "cooking the books: of state government would be disqualifying for Newsom running for President but that's just what many Dems want.
