Editor,

Jackie Speier’s now confirmed decision to run for San Mateo County Supervisor raises serious questions. Her earlier move to crown Kevin Mullin as her congressional successor now appears like a calculated play to retain influence, undermining the integrity of our democratic system.

What, Mr. Craig! Speier aligns with ICE now? If this is true, this reversal is likely to unite a substantial portion of the electorate who believe in law and order and not allowing criminals to be released early and often into the Bay Area wild. For this reason, Speier earns some respect and she has gained my vote.

This criticism of Jackie Speier is much too labored in its paranoid assumptions and smells like a politically inspired hit.

Gosh, Sam... don't you think Jackie's announcement was politically inspired?

The word to have paid attention to was "hit."

Good morning, Sam

I think your interpretation of critical reaction to Jackie's announcement is reasonable... it may very well be a politically inspired "hit." However, the question is still out there. Don't you think Jackie's announcement was politically inspired as well?

Back to your choice of the word "hit." In this very, very blue county with the lack of a conservative candidate who could beat Speier, Papan or Beach in next year's election, where do you think this "hit" is coming from?
