Editor,
We have been attending City Council meetings and writing letters to the mayor and members of the City Council to have a town hall with all South San Francisco residents about the future of the Municipal Services Building at 33 Arroyo Drive.
We are requesting that the MSB, which is paid for with our tax dollars, be reopened and serve as an additional community center for all South City residents. Blindsided by Measure W, our mayor and council have refused to meet with us about our concerns. We have requested publicly at council meetings to schedule a town hall so all the residents of South San Francisco can have a voice in the future of the MSB.
I believe the mayor and the council are being fiscally and environmentally irresponsible by demolishing a perfectly sound building that we desperately need as we have only one senior center on Magnolia and Grand avenues. Our one South City senior center is housed in an old grammar school divided by three floors, not enough parking and the room for yoga is too small to accept all the seniors who would like to take a class.
We have been on the corner holding our signs, residents have signs on their homes SAVE THE MSB and want everyone to know that mistakes were made on the new campus and that the Magnolia Center for seniors is not enough for a growing population.
