The claim in a recent letter to the editor that modern historic districts are “segregationist tools” is a gross distortion of the facts. While it is true that the 1920s had shameful housing restrictions, the Supreme Court struck those down nearly 80 years ago.
Today, our Glazenwood neighborhood is a multicultural success story, home to families from Japan, Mexico, India and across Europe. These very residents are the ones leading the 80% majority to preserve our neighborhood’s historic character.
Calling a diverse community “segregationist” for wanting to protect their homes’ architecture is inflammatory and wrong. We are focused on facts and community will, and we look forward to presenting our overwhelming support to the City Council.
