When I read Irv Brenner’s “No surprise” letter in your July 8 edition, I was recovering from surgery and the aftermath of a general anesthetic and was about to dismiss it as just another Trump Derangement Syndrome letter. But I was jolted awake by, “In 2018, Trump pulled out of Obama’s hard-won agreement thanks to petty jealousy, calling the best deal ever ‘the worst deal ever’ and now we’re paying the price.”
Without doing a data dump of all of the facts, and ignoring “Death to America, Death to Israel,” common sense forces one to conclude that if Iran didn’t have a nuclear weapons program, they wouldn’t need to enrich their own uranium to much less than low levels at all. Add to this that the Iranian regime lies through its teeth about the program as documented by the International Atomic Energy Agency and others and it’s all you need to know.
Full disclosure: If even some of Trump’s malfeasance broadcast in media is true, I am seriously bothered by a leader who does those things. On the other hand, it’s a fact of life that most political leaders have warts and some have boils.
The world is a better place when the Iranian extremist regime is weakened. I’m grateful to the Trump administration, and especially to Israelis, who have done the heavy lifting before the U.S. did the heavy bombing.
The Iranian people deserve better, and ridding the world of the Islamic Republic of Iran is a step in the right direction. The next step is unknown, but it can’t be worse than having a nuclear power that thinks mutually assured destruction is actually the realization of an ideological dream.
