Editor,
I agree whole-heartedly with the letter to the editor by Ms. Marcopulos (Monday, Feb. 10) about the dangers of Measure A. Giving up our rights to a select few to make decisions on our behalf is not where we should be headed.
Editor,
I agree whole-heartedly with the letter to the editor by Ms. Marcopulos (Monday, Feb. 10) about the dangers of Measure A. Giving up our rights to a select few to make decisions on our behalf is not where we should be headed.
Look at the wrecking ball currently going through our federal government, this is what happens when a few people wield lots of power. Measure A is not about the sheriff, it’s about giving power to a select few, to do as they choose.
If the sheriff needs to be recalled, then that is the special election we need to have, not one to give more power to the Board of Supervisors. If the sheriff had done something illegal, she would have been arrested by now. Get the real issues on the ballot and let the people who voted her in decide her fate, not give up their rights to make a choice and be heard.

It’s called limited power. The BOS is asking the VOTERS for permission to remove Corpus. And there is an ongoing investigation into possible criminal behavior by her. This is basically a recall by proxy, and you need to understand that the SO is not only losing deputies, it is having difficulty recruiting new ones as long as she remains in office. That impacts public safety. Your public safety.
Thanks, Ron, for pointing out the very real danger to public safety that exists with the Christina Corpus "wrecking ball" in office.
There are some other DJ readers who passionately prefer a recall election to a county charter amendment. That's OK. To them, a recall election is a much more reasonable approach to removing the sheriff. However, their claims Measure A is a power grab that will usurp the rights of the people is pure pablum. The people will decide at the ballot box whether to amend the charter and authorize the removal of the sheriff. The Board of Supervisors has been clear that they believe the sheriff should resign, but they cannot remove her without the consent of the people.
The author of today's LTE pleads that we should, "... let the people who voted her in decide her fate..." Passage of Measure A will do just that... the people will decide.
Spot on. Plus, Measure A is not permanently embedded in the County Charter. It has a sunset clause. The amendment will expire in 2028, the end of Corpus’s term.
Pacman – thanks for the clarification. BTW, I forgot to give you props a week and a half ago for part of your comment, “Christina, take off the blinders Victor gave u as a Valentine’s Day gift.” A classic.
