In his article “Commercial rent jumps” in the Monday, July 16, edition of the Daily Journal, reporter Austin Walsh said office rent space on the Peninsula spanning from Daly City through Palo Alto reached $5.95 per square foot at the end of June. This happens because businesses want to be in the area close to the city and airport.
We can build new offices south of Morgan Hill and Gilroy to allow many businesses to use them because when rent jumps up, the cost will be higher and reduces the profit, leading to high unemployment. High unemployment will occur because employees will ask for higher salaries because the rent and living expenditures in this area are very high.
The area from Daly City to Palo Alto is already very crowded and has high traffic. So, we should work to have new buildings available for the businesses in the area and also new buildings available for the employees.
Such new vacancies will help reduce the unemployment and at least keep the rent stable in the area which will also help to increase the demand in other areas as well. That will help generate more income taxes and corporation taxes as well.
