In response to recent speakers at Planning Commission meetings and letters to the editor from folks in favor of demolishing Bay Meadows, Mrs. Smoot says of the Phase One Development, "she is so happy to be able to get her nails done at Natalie's Nails instead of having to go all the way to Burlingame Avenue."
Well, I'm all for a great manicure, but the hard-working women at Bay Meadows race track won't be able to afford a bottle of nail polish, let alone a manicure or pedicure, once they lose their life-long jobs, have we become that shallow, to overlook the loss of a community treasure because it's more convenient to get your nails done? Jason Barnett says "he's only been to the dilapitated and outdated race track only once" Jason, I am assuming the horse you bet on didn't win ... otherwise I'm quite sure you would have been back several times!
Daniel Dadoun, of the Mid-Peninsula Boys and Girls Club, letter of July 14, 2005 greatly appreciating Bay Meadows Land Company's sponsoring of fundraising event that brought the club $1,000, Mr. Dadoun, letting Bay Meadows race track stick around, will give you the opportunity to raise multiple thousands of dollars for your Boys and Girls Club, at a race track sponsored community fund-raiser for your organization, an actual race in your organizations name and honor, to raise funds, remember the philanthropy that Bay Meadows is known for and was founded upon, and has contributed to this community for over 70 years?
And to Mike Hawkeye, July 19, 2005, thanking Bay Meadows Land Company for allowing him to taste wine and cheese, and listen to French music, WOW! that's something to savor and be grateful for when all of the hard-working people at Bay Meadows that have contributed to this community day in and day out, for longer than the 10 years that you have not attended the track, lose their jobs and cannot afford to give their families bread and cheese, let alone wine!
