Editor,

Mike Caggiano’s recent letter, “A solution for Gaza” Sept. 14-15, is very good. He lists most of the players and correctly states that we need to stop the rogue Netanyahu settler regime. Inexplicably, however, Mike doesn’t mention the elephant in the room. Hamas has the ability to stop this bloodbath in an instant. Don’t get me wrong, I think Bibi should be thrown in jail and the settlers driven out of the West Bank, but first Yahya Sinwar needs to eat his gun or surrender so the rest of the fighters can lay down their weapons and release the hostages. It’s not likely to end any other way.

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Clarke. As far as most people are concerned Hamas made their bed and must now lie in it. Any continued death and destruction is due to Hamas and they alone have the means to return all hostages and surrender unconditionally. If they choose not to then more power to Netanyahu and Israel to destroy Hamas and now Hezbollah.

It isn t the "Netanyahu settler regime." Israel itself is the settler regime and has been for 80 years. Getting rid of Netanyahu won't solve that.

Putting all blame on Hamas for Israel's racist ethnic cleansing and genocide of the Palestinians is another misdirection. In the first place, subjugation of Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank predated Hamas. In the second place, there is abundant evidence Israel encouraged hard line opposition by it's own violent treatment of Palestinians and aided Hamas to come to power in Gaza to prevent a peaceful settlement which Israel does not want (i.e.: a two-state solution or one state solution).

Israels real objective is what it is doing now which is ethnic cleansing in Israel and surrounding countries to create Greater Israel, which is a concept that goes back to the founder of Zionism, Theodore Herzl. The brutal confinement of Palestinians in the concentration camp known as Gaza was a temporary solution and now Israel is moving to the next phase, which is Greater Israel.

This is also an integral policy of United States neocons -which have control in the U.S. and many of whom are Zionists - to extend U.S. hegemony over and balkanize the Middle East. Among countries slated to be taken out are Syria, Lebanon, and Iran.
