Larry Kistler (Sept. 18) makes seven charges vilifying the Trump record. Kistler refers to “Factcheck.org as his source. Since the SMDJ, of course, could not allow me the space to refute all these claims, let me focus on just one. According to Kistler’s parroting of Factcheck.org, “illegal immigration increased during the Trump administration.” This is patently misleading. But compared to what? The Calvin Coolidge Administration? Kistler conveniently does not tell us. I checked the same website. It states that illegal immigration increased 300% under the Biden-Harris administration compared to Trump’s. And why would it not? Among other things, the Biden-Harris team stopped construction of the wall. Contrary to Trump policy, they allowed asylum seekers to stay in America instead of in Mexico. And Biden-Harris reversed Trump policy and energized the “catch and release” policy whereby migrants were released to communities even after they were apprehended. Kistler is trying to deceive us to believe there was more immigration under Trump than Biden-Harris. We are not that gullible. We see New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and other places overrun with migrants. Even Springfield, Ohio, a city of 60,000, has been deluged with 15,000 Haitian immigrants (These are labeled “legal” immigrants,” under the Biden-Harris plan that flies in up to 30,000 people per month from the countries of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Haiti).
Furthermore, during Biden-Harris administration, 382 terrorists on the terror watchlist entered our country illegally. During the Trump years that number was 11. Those are the facts, Mr. Kistler. Next time report them truthfully.
I agree. I had the same reaction to Larry's LTE published about a week ago. I did not comment on his list. If I had, it would have simply been... SMH.
I also agree with Terence who noted that Larry cherry picks statistics. You are correct to point out Larry’s misleading claim concerning immigration. In a DJ conversation about immigration earlier this year, I cited DHS data showing there were more border crossings last year under Biden than Trump’s entire term. However, I think we can extend the benefit of the doubt to Larry. Perhaps there is some missing context to his immigration claim? If so, he should provide it.
Larry also claimed in that same LTE that our country experienced its highest murder rate since 1997 under Trump. A couple of years ago, Larry made a claim about the murder rate being higher in red states and he offered a list of states to support his claim. I checked every item. Yes, those states had a higher rate... as a result of the murders committed in... wait for it... blue cities in those states. He appears he overlooked what was behind his stats.
Now, he attributes a high murder rate to Trump. Well, where are those murders taking place? The top 10 cities in the US with the highest murder rates are... wait for it... run by Democrats. How is Trump responsible for crimes committed in those cities (run by Democrats) that are violations of state laws?
I was in a hurry this morning and didn't have time to check the murder rate data again. It's actually more than the top 10. I'll take another look and update my own comment.

I went back and checked the list of American cities with the highest murder rates for 2022. The top 30 cities were run by Democrats, but there's an asterisk in there. The next year... 2023... Dallas' mayor Eric Johnson switched from Democrat to Republican.
I could not find a list of sanctuary cities that lent itself to merging a sanctuary city list with a list of cities with the highest murder rates. However, I did recognize some names of cities that appeared on both lists... like Washington, DC, Baltimore, New York, Detroit, Chicago, and Denver. Have a great weekend...
How can you tell by observation that cities are "overrun" by undocumented immigrants? By only seeing the Black and the Brown? How many illegal immigrants are plain old white people? No one seems to be complaining about that, as it's impossible to tell just by looking. But if people are Brown or Black, they are instantly seen as suspect.

By many counts Biden has welcomed 12 MILLION illegal immigrants into the United States, which would be about 3.5% of the US's population. 3 1/2 of every 100 people you encounter is an illegal immigrant. But in your happy go lucky world, all people should wear blinders and pretend that the people and things that we see we don't really see. In San Mateo, the pop-up street vendors, and the mamas pushing baby carriages with six other children along side her are just imaginary. And when you read the story about an illegal immigrant who broke into someone's home or violently assaults a member of society that it didn't really happen.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Abramson, debunking one of many lies that Mr. Kistler regurgitated from the Democrat playbook. When you stop and think about it, folks like Mr. Kistler have nothing but lies and as you’ve shown, they’re easily debunked. If folks like Mr. Kistler lie about the little things who knows what they’re willing to lie about.
