Editor,

Over the course of several years, 10 Honors/AS classes have been banned from Sequoia Union High School District schools without a board vote or community input. The elimination of these rigorous classes was done in the name of diversity, equity and inclusion,”  but it has resulted in inequitable access to class level choices based on a student’s ZIP code.

Thanks for your letter, Dr. Blum. We’ve seen, and continue to see, the destructive effects of diversity, equity and inclusion, not only in schools but in the general arena, which is why many companies have dismantled their DEI policies and departments. Let’s go back to a merit based system where students are offered classes to challenge their abilities instead of forcing students to lower their standards. The 10 Honors/AS classes should be reinstated (if not more) or their parents should think about pulling them out of public high school. And please, start voting out folks who push DEI garbage on your kids.
