I was stunned to read Robert Bacon's letter "Keep Bay Meadows, dump Jerry Hill" in the Aug. 26 edition of the Daily Journal about Supervisor Jerry Hill.
As a long-time San Mateo resident and someone who has voted for him since he first ran for the City Council, I know Jerry Hill to be an honest and hard working public servant. To imply that Jerry Hill is in the pocket of developers is ridiculous. Perhaps Mr. Bacon doesn't realize that since his days on the City Council, Jerry Hill has been a champion for our neighborhoods.
He helped write and campaigned vigorously for Measure H that lead to height restrictions for all developments in the city and I know that did not sit well with developers.

And since he's been on the Board of Supervisors, Jerry Hill has maintained an open-door policy, willing to listen to all sides. He's a straight shooter who is not afraid to tackle unpopular issues.
I may not always agree with his position (and when are we in agreement with every decision an elected official makes), but he gives me the courtesy of listening to my views and I trust his judgment.
I read Jerry Hill's Aug. 20 letter, and found it to be consistent with his long-established views of protecting our San Mateo neighborhoods and making this the best place to live for everyone. To call Jerry Hill dishonest and a liar is truly unfair and only shows Mr. Bacon's ignorance of Jerry Hill's integrity.
