As a home care worker I help elderly and disabled people, particularly children, to live in their homes instead of an institution. I help with food preparation, feeding, cleaning, bathing, and shopping for my clients. While I earn a significantly lower hourly salary than my last job, I feel it is necessary to serve my community and to restore to these clients some dignity and self-respect at their home.
My work will become more important as our senior population grows, and also the assistance needed for disabled children and young adults.
But, the low pay makes it difficult for me to keep doing this work. I am paid only $8.50 an hour. This makes it financially difficult for my family
