The Peninsula lost one if its best and brightest this weekend with the tragic death of Examiner and Independent photographer Susan Caldwell.

Caldwell, 41, was a single mom who worked hard to support her daughter Nina Garrison, 14. Both were tragically lost when struck by a motorist who crossed the center divide on Bayshore Boulevard in Brisbane Sunday. Caldwell was on the way to photograph the Golden Gate Kennel Club at the Cow Palace and was bringing Nina along to share the experience, according to an article in the Examiner on Monday. Caldwell was bringing Nina along with her because the two had recently lost a cat and were thinking of getting a dog, the article said.
