Advocates for drilling ANWR overlook the ecological importance of that region. It is home to numerous species of birds and mammals. Visit http://www.calacademy.org/exhibits/anwr/anwr_photo7.html. Or just type Arctic National Wildlife Refuge into a search engine. Judge for yourself.
The claim that ANWR is a vacant, desolate area is another lie, and a true patriot abhors lies. A true conservative, or conservationist, respects the habitats of our fellow mortals and leaves them alone.
There is very little oil under ANWR, only enough to provide a few years of supply. Simply raising vehicle fuel efficiency would eliminate the benefit of drilling there at all. It would also make cars run cleaner and reduce air pollution, something a true conservative also supports.
The main economic benefit of drilling ANWR seems to be profit for the oil exploration and production companies. Exxon appears to be a prime supporter. The oil industry took most if not all of my tax cut, so I see no need to offer them any more profit. Oppose drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
