Michael endured many years of major and minor surgeries for knee and heart disease.
Born in Manila, Philippines, Michael moved with his family to San Francisco's Sunset District in 1950. He was chosen student body president of St. Gabriel's Grammar School's first graduating class. Michael graduated from Riordan High School. After a brief stint at USF, Michael joined the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged as a corporal. Michael returned home and was hired at SFO's TWA. He thoroughly enjoyed his 42 years there and was lovingly known as "Yogi Bear." TWA provided Michael with many travel benefits, allowing him to pursue his love of golf all over the world.
In 1982, Michael rekindled a relationship with the love of his life, Ruth. They were wed shortly after. He continued his golfing; however, with his new love, took up scuba diving and underwater photography.
"All who knew Michael will remember and miss his consistent warmth, loving heart, gentle ways and beautiful spirit."
A funeral mass will be at St. Timothy Catholic Church in San Mateo,11 a.m. Thursday, March 14.
