Marie M. Gesicke, born Jan. 10, 1914, died peacefully in San Mateo Aug. 18, 2017, at the age of 103 1/2.
Born in Chicago, she moved to San Mateo 54 years ago with her mother. Her home was her castle and being a very strong and independent woman, she lived at home with minimal assistance until recently.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frieda and Frank; her brothers Walter and Frank; sister Dorothy and niece Linda. She is survived by three nieces: Patty, Arlene and Kathi; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Marie worked in the publishing industry for many years. In California, she worked as a proofreader for the San Mateo Times and the San Francisco Chronicle.
A big sports fan, she was thrilled when the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup and when the Cubs won the World Series.
“We would like to thank Sophia and Ana who helped her live at home for so long, the staff at Garden Court and the Sutter Hospice team for all their help and support at the end.”
Marie will join her mother in their family plot at the Graceland Cemetery in her beloved Chicago.
