Lynn Aird Fairbairn, of Belmont, died at Sequoia Hospital Oct. 20, 2018, surrounded by his four children, Jeffrey (Tina), Pamela (Tim) Blum, Janet Fairbairn, and Jennifer (Don) Mattei, 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was born in Springside, Saskatchewan, Canada, on May 24, 1929, and moved as a child to California. He graduated from Sequoia High School in 1947, the same year he married his wife of 68 years, Dolores Barrientos. Three years later, he became a naturalized citizen. Lynn and Dolores also lived in Carson City, Nevada, for 12 years before returning here three years ago.
Lynn was one of Belmont’s first paid firefighters and worked for chief Harry Chamberlain. He studied aeronautics at College of San Mateo which led to a 25-year career as a United Airlines pilot. Before United, he flew for Aaxico Air Lines hauling military cargo. Prior to that, he was a flight instructor at Palo Alto airport.
Besides flying, he loved working on his home as well as motorcycles and cars. He also loved his many pets and regularly fed the quail, wild birds, squirrels and rabbits that lived in his yard.
