Longtime San Mateo County resident Kevin Michael Duggan, 62, passed away on June 26th after an extended and pain-filled final battle with cancer. Born in San Francisco to Patrick and Pauline (Burke) Duggan in March of 1956, he came to San Mateo when the family moved to the Shoreview neighborhood in 1958. Kevin grew up there, attended and graduated from both Saint Timothy Catholic School and Junipero Serra High School.
Kevin was a great friend, a formidable foe and foremost a survivor. He fought his way through life. He worked as a beer truck driver, an iron worker and eventually as a computer systems engineer for San Mateo County for twenty years. He was as intelligent as he was charming, obstinate as he was demanding. Family, relationships, school and work were all embraced and/or battled depending on his judgement and preference. He was proud of his Irish heritage, and a life-long fan of the Giants and the 49ers. He loved a cold beer, a hot grill and good company. Ten years ago Kevin battled colon cancer. He battled it fiercely and was victorious. But it was a ten round fight, and he was KO’d in the tenth. He spent the last few days of his life in the excellent care of the staff at beautiful and pacific Mission House Hospice in San Mateo.
He was preceded in death by his father Patrick and his mother Pauline. He is survived by his brother Patrick, sister-in-law Melissa and nephew Michael of Corte Madera. A private memorial will be held at a later date. Donations in Kevin’s memory can be made to any of the following:
