Aldo Giachelli died peacefully at his home Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, four days before his 94th birthday.
Aldo was born Feb. 29, 1924, and raised in Italy. He was a cobbler by trade. In 1955, he came to the United States and lived in San Mateo for more than 60 years. For many years, he worked for the San Mateo Union High School District. After he retired, he spent most of his days outdoors working in his garden. He was well-known and loved by many relatives and neighbors in San Mateo.
Aldo was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Vanda Tribuzi. He was the hard-working father to Celestina Finkle (Dave), Cecilia Giachelli (Don Peterson), and Maria Aplanalp (James, deceased); grandfather of 11; and great-grandfather of 13.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. followed by a vigil 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at Sneider & Sullivan & O’Connell’s, 977 S. El Camino Real, San Mateo, CA. Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, at Skylawn Memorial Park, State Route 92 at Skyline, San Mateo.
